Table-top halogen ovens

I like the look of the Visicook Crisp and Bake halogen oven, they're more expensive but they're a cross between a halogen and an Actifry. I'm not sure how long they last or if they have the same problems as other halogen ovens but if it's bought from Lakeland there'll be no problems returning it.

Track record so far,
Ideal World Halogen.(around the £50 mark),lasted 18months,but ideal world refunded me when they couldnt repair it,
Costco.Team Visicook one(£30 or £35),lasted 11months,and Costco will refund/replace.
So altho neither have lasted very long, they were both used a lot and im not out of pocket, just inconvenienced...
I haven't got one, sigh, but aaccording to my friendly electrical appliance repair man the reason these ovens die so quickly is oil/fat dripping on to the bulbs. Apparently fires are quite common too and the new Tefal machines that do chips in a spooonful of oil have the same problem.
Not that that is why I haven't got one. I still want one because you are all so enthusiastic about them. I just never have the spare cash.Stop looking for answers....

This April I will have had mine for 2 years with no problems. I bought it from Ideal World because it has a hinged lid and I have succesfully returned and had replaced/refunded items from them.
I do not know if it makes a difference, but when I use my halogen which is most days because I have never had my oven on since, I leave the lid up until bedtime (easy to do with a hinged lid). This way I feel that there is no condensation hanging around the element/bulb and it is left open to dry. I make sure I wipe the element part with a damp cloth only after every use and so far so good, but I really cannot say if this is why it has lasted. A year after I had my halogen I bought another one from IW in the sale just in case mine went as the reports did not look too good and I have it sitting in the loft as a back up. Over time I have experimented, bought books, used my own judgement and now feel more able using it, it does take time and effort to conquor this type of cooking but well worth it and I am pleased I persevered to be more adventurous. I have to say that even if it only lasted a year, I would keep buying them because it is such a good price, less than a night out and the savings in time and electric have more than covered it. The halogen probably would not be to everyone's liking, but it is mine - only if I have the hinged lid, though, and I would say to any new purchaser to take your time with it and keep experimenting."Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". - Benjamin Franklin0 -

As the the bulb is in the top of the oven, you would have to use it upside down for that to happen.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

I'm glad it wasn't just me who couldn't work out how that could happen with a halogen oven
A friend's uncle's cousin's brother's sister's aunt's nephew's niece who was friends with an electrical engineer told me they were the best thing ever...... who to believe!!!! :rotfl:0 -
