Hi reeree,
I've added your thread to our main one on halogen cookers where you'll find lots of advice.

I wouldn't recommend it if you have a real oven, unless you're struggling to fill it. It's good, but it's just a small fan-assisted oven (so remember to adjust your cooking times from an ordinary electric or gas oven). It's difficult to bake in as you can't accurately preheat it. Better than a microwave with a built-in oven, as long as you have the room for it, but nothing on a proper oven.
Absolutely disagree with this!
It cooks quicker, and you cook at less temperature. You don't need to preheat - the heat is instant
The meat cooked in it is far superior to that dried oven taste - it stays as juicy as rotisserie chicken.
I think all the comments here about how people wouldn't be without theirs says it all!
I know our electricity has gone down £120 in a year, and the only thing we do different is use the halogen oven much more than our regular oven!0 -

Preheating is absolutely essential for baking and impossible when you have to open the lid of the oven. It's great for other food, I agree, but if anyone has managed to bake in one, I'd love to know how!0 -

I was a big fan of my infra red, especially in the summer where it's great for cooking without heating up the kitchen even more - makes a great roast chicken, grilled chicken breasts or salmon, sausages, burgers.
BUT certainly not better than a microwave with a built in oven.
I can use my m/wave for proving and baking bread, small batch baking, grilling, combi roasting etc. Additionally, my m/wave doesn't have to be stored when I'm not using it (the infra red is bulky to leave on a worktop or to put in a cupboard)
Combi m/wave for me every time! Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
Hate mine with a passion, meat is either dry and tough or raw. Went back to my oven within 2 weeks. The Halogen is in the cupboard now and will probably never see light of day again. Ill stick with my electric oven.0

Did you follow the 10% rule? 10% less time and 10% less temperature?0 -

What make of oven did you get? sometimes that can have a bearing too!
we do jacket potatos... 5 mins in microwave, the 30mins in the halogen and they are the fluffiest inside and the crispest outside we've ever had :beer:0
