I had my home insurance renewal quote in - £103 for the year, so onto Top Cash Back I went and used their insurance comparison tool and found a policy for £35.10 with £16.50 cash back, so a total cost of £18.60 saving of £84.40 :jPay off Car Loan £17,047 £10580 by Christmas 2022

Took home contents insurance only via Top Cashback site for £42 for the year. Received £92 cashback...........Profit of £50.
Not a bad result - wouldn't you agree?. :rotfl:0 -
Apathy would have auto renewed the red telephone cover at £214.12 (up from £185.50 in 2013).
Tart set up new policy with the red telephone for same price as in 2103 BUT WITH TOPCASHBACK of £42.
So tart saved £70.62.
Easy, now I can afford another weekend away in the white tinbox!

I received a renewal quote from Tesco which was a 30+% increase on last year, despite no claims and no increased risks. I contacted them to haggle but was told that ALL insurance had gone up by this amount and there was nothing they could do.
I wrote to Benny Higgins, their CEO's office but other than an acknowledgement and a commit to fully investigate and reply, I have received no response.
I picked up the phone and called round competitors and have now insured with Sainsburys who quoted almost £100 less than Tesco and threw in 5000 Nectar points as well. This represents a 7% increase on last year's premium which is far more reasonable.0 -
I have just recently used the Post Office Guarantee to beat our contents insurance renewal by £50 - Our renewal quote was £50.04 - they confirmed that I met the criteria before I signed up - and so my Insurance this year is 4pence!!

I've been with the same insurer for many years as they're consistently cheapest for contents-only, always taking out a new policy rather than renewing (cheaper, plus got an M&S voucher through MSE last year). As I'm buying a house I now need buildings and contents, checked with my insurer and they wanted £337! The house is 200 years old and within 400m of water, but still...
Collected several lots of comparison site cashback for quotes (as well as checking various others and my trade union's offer) and ultimately paid £133 (with a nice low excess), less £25 more cashback :beer:0 -
Last year I got it down by 76% - this year I've just cut it by ANOTHER 48%, from £223 (Swinton) to £116 (Policy Expert). I did check all the small print, and I'm happy.
On Monday I'm going to phone them, though. I started off going through the MSE link for a £75 Amazon voucher. That lowest quote was £192. Counting the voucher, effectively £117. Then Compare the Market showed £116 - I input exactly the same options but also chose accidental damage (buildings only); adding that to the other one pushed it up above £220.
I think this is a bit sinister. On the same evening, with the same details... are they just saving the £75 by adding it onto the quotes? Underhand!
When I bought, I did go through the MSE link again and then logged in. Both quotes showed in my account. I'm not expecting the offer to "just happen", and I haven't had any email saying so (if you've used this link - do they confirm first, or just send it 90 days later?). Intending to phone and tell them I deserve it. Wish me luck.muddlemand wrote: »Well, it has taken me 3 months but I've done it: from £923 to £223 - that is, cut by 76%. I worked the percentage out (celebrating by doing sums, lol)! Plus I've made a one-off payment, so apart from saving that extra on the interest, also I now have NO home insurance amount d/d. Instead of £78/month. Result!
(That includes insuring an insulin pump - NHS-provided but they tell you to put it on the contents insurance for about £3000 - without any loading, which also took a little clever fluttering of the eyelids over the phone.)
Almost a shame that I won't reduce it by SUCH a lot ever again.

Martin thank you for your money saving insurance tips. I followed your advice and saved over £1100, yes £1100 on my annual premium for Buildings and contents insurance. In the past for years I just accepted the annual renewal. I was with Sainsbury's Insurance and I now have the premium cover with John Lewis. I am delighted.0
