If you're getting the Insurance for "Free" it makes sense to adjust the cover to your benefit.

If you can adjust the quote to remove the alarm and security discount you really would benefit as this is a pain to have on your policy if you can avoid it

This is a sort of first for me. Well, I always check out topcashback first then look for voucher codes and it has always been the most lucrative 1/2 hour I spend each year. Last year I went through TCB to get home contents insurance for my elderly mother and got it through Kwik-Fit insurance services, a cracking deal! because it only cost about £26 and I got £22 cash back, but this year same format again and go through TCB but time to "Ditch & Switch" because I got it with Tesco Home Insurance for the princely sum of £37.60 but wait for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, getting £40.40 cash back meaning it cost me nothing! in fact I'll click £2.80 when the cash back pays out. I know not to count this cash back till it's in the bag so to speak but it tracked ok so 99% certainty. (PS: only needs contents as she lives in a council bungalow)

On another note, I did the same thing for my own building & contents insurance back in june and got my home and contents with British Gas for £73.99 and I am just about to get £70.70 cash back so it cost me £3.29!

I posted this on home insurance discussion, but it might be better placed here.

Just in case it has not been mentioned already, if anyone looking to get building and contents insurance and you are a British Gas customer they are currently offering free contents cover when you take out buildings insurance (but still make sure you select building and contents).

Topcashback are offering £70 cash back too.

I did a quote with them for a standard 3 bed (extended) semi, they covered building and contents above what we needed - i think 400k Buildings and 40k contents (no choice to change these down only up) noise alarm, mortise deadlock doors/lockable windows, no accidental cover though, no very expensive items, £100 excess, 1years previous contents cover only & legal cover and it came to £101 :j so with cash back £31 a year.

Only trouble is, I am not a BG customer so can't take it out :(:( but my nana is so I will be making sure she gets one herself! The next cheapest I am finding for the same house with other providers is just over £100 more :(

You sure you need to be a BG customer to take out their Buildings & Contents insurance? I'm not a BG customer and I have my buildings and contents insurance with them (see my thread on this page)

TopCashBack (and similar) you'd be daft not to!
    My TCB Dashboard:
    Current Cashback: £111.10 (Pending)
Claimed/Paid out £675.55 Total Earned (since I started going via TCB) £786.65
  • Paid £40.67 for contents insurance with endsleigh. Went through quidco who have already tracked the purchase and should give me £55 cashback. £14.33 profit = win

Every year I use comparison sites to check my house insurance when the renewal notice comes through.
I then run the cheapest 10 from each of the comparison sites through TCB to see what I can get back.

This year, my dad wanted his home insurance renewed, so I took his renewal letter and ran his insurer through TCB. Was in luck. Clicked-through and applied as a new customer. Got him his insurance for over £130 less (and increased what it covered as well). He also got a £50 food voucher and I got £26 cashback. Both chuffed at this.
