I opened a basic account with Barclays but I do have a barclaycard which now I'm starting to think may not have been a good idea but apprantly these companies are seperate like Natwest and Natwest credit card- what do you think? After researching companies for a basic bank account I just thought Barclays sounded the best and also we have one of those near to where we live too- any ideas?
Hi I'm not so sure if hat's completely safe. I made sure my safe account was completely unrelated in any way to my other accounts. I'm with L.TSB. It was easy to open an account, but hard to turn down the OD when it was offerred. BUT I did. You'd be better to be safe rather then sorry IMHO...LBM June 2008 Debt at LB £6906.65 :eek:Payments to date-£2933.871 year to lose:j 20 pounds- September 2009 (9 so far) (Weight loss the old style way)"A life lived in fear, is a life half lived"0 -
H Folks - all my token payments now made - paperwork arrived from CCCS re DMP but still confusion as the CCCS counsellor also recommended a thing call a Debt Arrangement Scheme which is only available here in Scotland. It is monitored by the Scottish Government and once up and running the creditors cannot go after your house - a big worry of mine as I have a £19000 unsecured loan with Northern Rock (as well as my mortgage). You need to get a money advisor at the CAB before being accepted on this and this is where the problem is - CAB just never answer their phone   I have emailed them for an appointment and still no joy. Think I will just turn up on Monday
I can still go with the DMP but the CCCS said that the Scheme was another option which might give me more peace of mind - I know it makes sense but just really want to be up and running ASAP.
Dumb luck - these payday loan people are a nightmare and should definitely be monitored by some kind of regulator. They are fleecing people already in financial difficulties as why else would anyone else use them?! I had a loan for £200 with PayDay UK, it was £250 to pay back at the end of the month. They are clever though just before I was due to pay back, they said I could defer part of the loan to the following month (at an extra charge of course). I stupidly did this and only paid them £125. This month I had to pay them £156 which I did and am now absolutely skint. I just wanted to get rid of it as thought they might be awkward re a DMP. As you've discovered they are but I would just try and let those who are running your DMP deal with it. Eventually they will get the picture when you don't cave in to their aggression and end up paying. They used to phone me at work (highly embarrassing) offering me more loans etc. They make me so mad - modern day loan sharks!! Hope you get sorted out, keep your chin up and don't let the blighters get you down.No more credit for me - I will no longer live beyond my means :A

dd, I THINK I remember reading that Barclays are one of the few that let you have a basic bank account when you have a DMP and other debts with them, but I honestly would rather be safe than sorry and get an account with another bank that's not related to any of your debts. I sent postal orders for my token £1 payments. They cost £1.50 each though  But one of my creditors is my old bank, and I didn't really want ANY of my creditors having my new account details plus my signature on the cheque!! Although, thinking about it, they have my signature on the CCCS form... Oh well, at least they don't know where my bank account is!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Hi Ruthie,
No idea how to get a number but hopefully someone who has the power will show up and give us one soon :-)
As for the signature, there I can help- there is a line of tabs in bright blue writing near the top of the page... click on quick links, and you will have to click of eidit signature and you should be able to sort iit out from there.
The PayDay companies are horrific- I know I owe intrest but it's now more then double what I borrowed in few months, AND they add interest to interest... I know I had a chose to borrow from them BUT I had to get money from somewhere and a regular bank wouldn't give it to me... Ah well, one lives and learns :-) At least you got rid of it. Still I must admit in fairness to PD UK they accepted my DMP no problem, and never called or anything. (And yes 6 of my creditiors are from PayDay loan companies ranging from 250, 320, 789, 650, 800 and SDC's every growing 1789) One doubled what I owed but the rest except one that's never responded have been good enough about it.LBM June 2008 Debt at LB £6906.65 :eek:Payments to date-£2933.871 year to lose:j 20 pounds- September 2009 (9 so far) (Weight loss the old style way)"A life lived in fear, is a life half lived"0 -

I may sound a bit daft here but what could happen if they have our signitures on cheque?LBM June 2008 Debt at LB £6906.65 :eek:Payments to date-£2933.871 year to lose:j 20 pounds- September 2009 (9 so far) (Weight loss the old style way)"A life lived in fear, is a life half lived"0 -
Many creditors have been a bit relaxed in keeping signed CCA's (Credit Agreements) and if a debt is pre 2007 you can challenge them and ask them to supply it. Some unscrupulous creditors have been known to doctor documents with signatures you have supplied. It is sometimes handy to challenge a Creditor if they are unwilling to freeze interest etc. If they can't supply a CCA they are sometimes more willing to comply.
p.s you're not daft. Few of us knew all of this before this website.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0 -

Thanks for this, I think I will go and open another account and then later on close the Barclays one. Are there any that can be opened online? Like Lloyds TSB? I don't think I will be able to get into town anytime next week as back to work Monday and I usually work late for the extra money. DDTotal debt at start of DMP: £20972.00First Payment: January 2009

Hi,
I used Nat West to open my basic bank account. I completed everything online and the account was active in about a week. I've been pleased with them. Good as long as they are not one of your creditors, or Royal Bank of Scotland for that fact, as they own Nat West.

Hiya,
I got accepted for my Cashminder account after the referral but it's subject to certain documents being received.
I have the relevant documents but I need to get them certified. One of the recommended set of people to certify them is bank/financial services. Can I just walk into any bank and ask them to certify for me or will they only do it for their own accounts?
The only problem with Co-operative is that the nearest branch is 200 miles away so I can't visit them in person.
I had hoped that my employer would count but they are the local authority and only civil servants can certify. We are public servants and not as important obviously
Have 7 days to get this to them so I hope someone can help me.August 08 debt £58544.84, Paid £1668, Dec 08 Total £58236.48
