    nataz,
from first glance it looks like maybe A&L, Abbey or Halifax might be your best move? Not sure who Virgin and M&S are linked with though?

You can't have Natwest because they link with Rbos.

Think I'll try Halifax, my mortgage is with Abbey so want to stay clear of them and I dont have a local A&L.

    Fingers crossed

  • nataz, I think you'll be fine with Halifax. I think they are/will only be linked to HBOS and Lloyds? I've just opened an account with Lloyds as I have no creditors among Halifax, HBOS or Lloyds. Give yourself enough time to open the account and have your wages and direct debits transferred. I started this process about 3 weeks ago and have moved everything in time for this month's salary to be moved and all my essential direct debits. That's all running smoothly now. I'm sending my paperwork to CCCS tomorrow, for a 1st December start, and sent my CCCS form to all my creditors yesterday with a £1 postal order each (I didn't want to send them a cheque from my new bank account and give them my details!!)

I was able to open a current account with Lloyds (which I got a debit card and chequebook with, but did not ask for an overdraft) because my credit history was perfect until today, when my creditors received my forms.... :o

    Hi All
After reading your thread for quite some time and getting my act together (moving bank accounts) etc etc, I am now on my way to doing my own DMP. I want to see how I get on with things before getting involved in CCCS as I am currently a temp and I don't know how they look at that as technically I am neither permanently employed nor self employed!! Anyway, I have sent off letters to my good friends at HSBC as that is where approx 75% of my debt is, and the ones that I have the most problems with so fingers crossed I am on my way to sorting myself out!!
I just thought I would pop in and say hi and thank you all for your help!!!

Well, have finally taken the plunge and we have sorted our DMP with CCCS which starts 1st November, feels like a weight off already!!!
Sold our Nintendo Wii with Wii Fit in the local paper for £260, sold the old freezer in the conservatory for an amazing £50.00 and took the plunge and contacted Studio Catalogue asking for a refund of charges with interest and cant believe that it took only 3 weeks from start and finish and received a letter yesterday saying they will arrange a cheque for £500 asap as a 'goodwill gesture inc interest' which was the amount I wanted back!!!! Excellent start, small emergency fund and some pennies for Christmas although started Xmas present shopping for sale bargains already!
Cannot thank this board enough for all the info and support - you guys are WONDERFUL :A

    Hi all,

As Lloyds are one of my creditors who haven't been that good with my DMP, I decided to try and reclaim ppi back from an old loan with them taken out in 2002. Sent letter off explaining I wanted refund etc etc etc. Got a reply back in 2 days stating that there was no ppi attached to the loan! I then sent an angry letter back saying that I disagreed and that I was furious that they were trying to fob me off by lying about the ppi and included repayment figures that clearly showed ppi was included. Got another letter back a couple of days later saying that according to their records no ppi was attached to the loan, but they would check the original paperwork to confirm.
Anyway, got a letter back today with loan agreement stapled to it. It confirmed that they were wrong and I was right. There was a totally grovelling appology letter from the branch manager where I took the loan out and confirmed that they were taking my complaint "very seriously" and it had been passed onto their "Customer Care Team".
This just shows how bad their internal systems operate and that departments dont speak to each other. This makes me confident that I'll win my case cos it would show that their internal records were wrong if the case went to court.
I really hope this reclaim is a success as the loan was for £20000!!!, so the ppi was a massive £4500!!! With interest on top this would be well over £5000 refunded back to me!!!:j This would go a massive way to wiping out some of my debt.

    Cocker :)

Ta-dah! :j It's ok I haven't been drinking (well ok 2 cups of tetley tea) :D just wanted to say 'morning' to you all. Had a decent half term so far....

I went to bank the yesterday and had a little bit more in that what I thought :T still finding it hard to adjust to not having an overdraft though to fall back on so I always worry about leaving money in to cover direct debits and I really miss the cheque book and debit card I really do  It's hard to adjust when you are in DMP mode isn't it? OH and kids imitate me now when I come home from food shopping because I go on about what offers I picked up and how I got 3 for 2 on this or that or I got this for xx amount of pence. YES I am now that sad! :o

I really wanted to go into Woolworths yesterday because they have 3 for 2 offer on toys, I so would have been in there pre DMP :D but yesterday something stopped me, my kids have had nearly every toy going, every board game and they don't need anymore, this will be the first christmas we will have that the presents will mean something because real thought has gone into it, no more buying willy nilly just because I can (shame) :p So account will be in credit rolling on to next month too :j

I went into a charity shop! My 12 (going on 21!) year old daughter would be so ashamed of me, she will NOT be seen dead in there in case any of her friends see her. I walked past and thought i'll just have a nose see what stuff they got and glad I did because I got a bargain, a jumper from Next for £3 :T I know it's shameful isn't it? :o but it was in excellent condition I'm sure it's new. When I think I could have up to £3000 worth of stuff from their catalogue when I had my account with them now I'm rummaging in charity shops for their stuff. :D Oh the shame of a DMP!! :rotfl:

I made chocolate rice crispie and cornflake cakes with my two the other day and you should have seen their faces!! They were so chuffed that we were making these things, just proves you don't need to spend loads to have a good time. Very little mess, I didn't burn the chocolate and the cakes tasted nice too! ;)

I have had a few arguements with OH about the DMP, debts, letters etc as I find it hard to switch off. I can't help it, I'm worried about the hassle from creditors but he said 'it's every night' (haha I wish it was:rotfl: ) ...ahem, I have tried to stop thinking about the debt but it's hard isn't it? I think it seems more difficult when your partner doesn't seem phased at all by any of it. I will try not to bring it into every conversation, think it's cause it's early days.

Anyone else been watching Dead Set on E4? Suppose its better than listening about the recession on the news ;)

anyway I'm rambling on now so I'll stop :p

    take care xxx

Hey, I love charity shops my perfect day out is going to a town where theres loads, OH loves them more than me! Sad or what!
I know what you mean about not being able to switch off from the debt, sometimes all I seem to do is eat, drink and sleep it:eek:

I am addicted to Dead Set too, Zombies attacting nasty credit card companies or DCA'S would make a good story for all us DMPers!:rotfl:

  • Good luck with your claim cocker100 ;)

We got some money back a few months ago from a FirstPlus loan and thye said while they believed the product we were sold was sold fairly the phone record reception could not be heard on some occasions so they could not say 100%. Offered us just under £3000 which we accepted.

At the moment I am looking into reclaiming some bank charges and credit card charges. However, I don't have all the statements so need to send £10 to cover this. I am wondering how this will go down when I have just sent them a £1 token payment this month before my DMP starts - anyone done this before and what was the reaction?
No more credit for me - I will no longer live beyond my means :A

    Total debt pre-1 Dec 08 DMP £43,403
  • I'm just about to enter a DMP and have sent £1 postal order token payments this month. One of my creditors is my old bank, who I have a £2,400 overdraft with. I sent a £10 postal order for 6 years' bank statements yesterday and I'm going to try and claim mine back. I don't care what they think. It's pretty obvious why I'm doing it ... I have very little money to budget on now but a refund of charges would seriously reduce my overdraft.
