Fortunately, I have a couple of teenage girls who would be happier to receive a few notes to spend on the sales than things that i think they would like (but secretly don't) under the tree. My son is young enough to be happy with something that looks big and keeps him happy for a while, so I'll definitely be thinking differenty this year.

I've got 50 items on ebay at the moment having cleared out the loft and a wardrobe and it's looking good right now so that will be my Christmas fund. It will make a change to actually plan sensibly rather than stick it all on a card without thinking about what people really would like as a gift...
    Lou
  • i'm just glad that we dont have many people to buy christmas presents for!
  • has anyone used dfh financial solutions before? have just been looking through teh forum and cant find any reference to them! am slightly worried now as they said my 13500 debt will be gone in 4 years and 3 months and am doubting them now
  • thanks Lou,
i rang up the cmpany yesterday and the forms came today so am just filling them in! Cut up all my credit cards yesterday and binned them half in my friends new house bin and half in her old bin 12 miles away LOL. Just worried now as to what will happen. Does a DMP affect credit ratings? I was told no but i highly doubt it wont. Do you really get threatening phone calls and letters, mostly worried about the phone calls as hubby doesnt know about all this! he found out about a loan i had 3 years ago and went up the wall so am dreading telling him as he said then he'd leave if i ever did that again (am hoping it was in teh heat of teh moment!)

So sorry Wannabee I missed you there, there was me waffling on about christmas tut tut! Hello and welcome  you will be ok here, it's a good place to be!

A DMP does affect your credit rating because you will receive default notices after you begin to miss monthly minimum payments when you set it up. Default notices stay on your credit file for 6 years from when the company issues you with one. So it could be a year in to your DMP and you'll get a default notice which is 6 years from then.

You cannot take, well you are strongly advised not to take out more credit when with CCCS and setting up a DMP I suppose for 2 reasons 1) the reason you are on a DMP is because you got in a mess with the credit you had in the first place and 2) CCCS wouldn't like it if you went behind their backs and against your original agreement with them to set up a DMP for you only to take more credit out. It would seem like you were taking the pee. If they find out they could close down your DMP account and you will have to go it alone.

Some people have experienced phone calls from creditors, I haven't because I changed my number as soon as I set up my DMP. They will send you letters though, of course they will say and do anything to get you to pay up or explain your situation time and time again to different people. There are letters to send to creditors if you are being hassled though e.g several text messages asing to call immediately or urgently and most letters contain empty threats in BIG BOLD WRITING just to scare you.

My advice to you is this - tell your partner the truth, however long your DMP is for you will have to constantly hide the guilt or the worry you will feel over the debt and how will you explain the sudden letters or phonecalls asking for you? For what its worth I would confess and get it over with and go from there.

take care and let us know how you get on xxx we want to help out on here plus we are all very nosey :rotfl:

Please please don't use this company. Phone CCCS they are fabulous, are a charity and DO NOT take ANY fees at all! No company can tell you how long your debt will take to clear. It is in the hands of the cc and loan companies whether they accept DMP payments or freeze interest. I assume dfh are taking a fee? That money could be going towards repaying your debt. The 2 free charities who are recognised by all the creditors are CCCS ( www.cccs.co.uk ) and payplan. CCCS have been wonderful and there for advice along the way. Read through the posts on this thread to see how much support and help they give and it's FREE!!!! :rotfl: ;)

Advice On A Matter With Dfh
I HAVE POSTED THIS ON ANOTHER THREAD ALREADY BUT FEEL THAT AS IT'S AN OLD THREAD IT MAY NOT GET TOO MANY VIEWS AND WAS HOPING FOR SOME ADVICE ON MY SITUATION!

I recently joined DFH and was told over the phone that my first payment was an administration fee and that the following payments would go to my creditors minus their fee! it was only after joining and paying my second instalment that i began to doubt them as my creditors had said they had recieved no contact at all from DFH! DFH had told me they had sent a first and second letter to my creditors and when i challenged them about what i had been told they replied that they would say that as and i quote "they dont want you to be in a debt management plan, and they are lying" i explained that i know one of the people who would deal with my banks debt management personally and through my work and i have no reason to distrust them!
I then asked for my money to be returned to me minus the first instalment and percentage as payplan are managing my case now, and was told that my SECOND MONTH WAS ALSO ADMIN FEES! I told him i had a copy of my terms and agreement and that it stated that only the 1st month was fees (i didnt have a copy but was bluffing) he came back to be after putting me on hold stating to send in my copy and if so they will refund me! I know it is my own stupid fault for not reading terms and conditions and binning them i was however so relieved to get what i thought was good help with my debt!
I was wondering if i have any comeback on this as DFH have taken £444 of my money and done nothing for me and when i explained that i was moving to payplan ( a no fees company) i was told over the phone numerous times that i would be better to stick with DFH as payplan are not looking to help me but only to help my creditors!! I couldn't believe the idocy of this cretins arguement and all i wanted was my money back minus (what i see as unfair) the fees as per the first telephone conversation!

Basically as a recent customer i would advise everyone to stay clear of this company and was hoping for advice as to whether or not i have a legal leg to stand on regarding my £444??

Thak you in advance and please i dont want any testimonials as to how good they are for some people and not for others i would just like advice

DO a search for DFH in forums at the top of the page for more experiences with them!

Happy Half Term! (But how did it get to Thursday:rolleyes: ) I've spent the last couple of days preparing stuff for my displays - parents eve first week back!)
Your post made me smile. I have become a bargain fanatic! The highlight of my week was when in Somerfield my reduced bread went through at £1.40 not 30p and the checkout lad couldn't change it so he put my chicken through for free! I was so excited it's unreal! And the week I bought 2 packets of reduced muffins that were already on offer and I ended up paying 12p for the 2! Ha ha ha ha. I was very thrifty (had to be!)as a single parent at uni about 14 years ago and I'm sure I can regain the financial control I used to have! I've bought the kids some clothes off ebay which they are fine about. OH took a bit of convincing at first! He's still trying to work out how how can buy a new tv! (Haven't told him he can't - just waiting for him to figure that out for himself;) ) It looks like our bolier is on its way out which is a bit of a worry:o . Looks like warm socks and jumpers for us then!
