  • Hi all i've got my first payment review withh cccs tonight. Could I just ask what they are likely to ask etc? I have struggled a bit so far but I think its mainly the transition from having unlimited money ( credit cards) to having none and having to budget. I have had letters saying they are defaulting the accounts but i'm not sure if any of them have yet as I haven't heard from any debt collecting agencies etc am I likely too?

All they will do is run through everything on your budget, so all your income and expenditure. Now is the time to adjust amounts if you think they're not right. For eg. If you feel you didn't allow enough for groceries you can change the amount now. So run through your budget before they call.

It's hard to say. Creditors behave differently to different customers and it's never black and white. It's likely at some point you'll end up with a DCA however, they aren't all ogres. Chances are, if your passed to a DCA, all charges and interest will stop.

Hi I'm a total newbie at DMP stuff and have just found this post. I have just got off the phone with National Debtline and have asked them to help set up a DMP. I have just over 25k worth of debt, my hubby works but I dont, I've got a little girl and another baby on the way. We own our own home but are failing in our attempt to sell it to pay off debts. In short we can no longer cope with this amount of debt. I've have tried switching to 0% and fixed rate cards but its had no affect, instead our debt has risen by 3k in one year!
I'm really scared about whats going to happen, and how we are going to survive when baby no.2 arrives.
Has anyone got any tips and success stories to tell to put my mind at rest?

Hi nataz - you are making a step in the right direction. We are just embarking on the DMP route too. I am still undecided as to whether to go with CCCS or on my own as I am afraid my own one might not have so much clout (can anyone advise?).

You have realised you can't go on the way you're going and that is such a positive move. We committed debt suicide by borrowing to get out of original debt, then using credit to live off of. Once you get everything down on paper and your plan sorted out you will feel so much better. Wishing you well.
No more credit for me - I will no longer live beyond my means :A

Hi Nataz, just a quick suggestion to help you with Babe number 2 ... use your local Freecycle! I don't know where you are, but my local group is has lots of people posting with all kinds of items for babies, all completely free. Well worth using!

  • My experience with cccs has been all positive so far. DMP begins Nov 1st, phonecalls have all stopped.. I just prefer to use them than do my own, mainly because it feels more like I have some backup from professionals who know their stuff! Also I like quoting my cccs number to creditors, it makes them back off. I would recommend them highly :)

  • Hello everyone this is my first post on this thread so be gentle with me.
I have sorted out my DMP with CCCS plan starts 1st Nov i cant wait, i had been getting really stressed what with constant phone calls from DCA called Roxburghe and dreaded opening any mail i was getting depressed. Roxburge are dealing with 2 debts one for Nationwide for £1600 and the one that is pestering me is Carphone warehouse account for £250, i had explained that both accounts were going on a DMP and the gentleman i spoke to regarding Nationwide was really nice and understanding said he would make note on my file, yet the woman dealing with the Carphone just keeps pestering me with phone calls.
I have banked with HSBC for about 8 years and one of my debts is an overdraft with them for £1550 when i was married about 2 years ago, i have been making a token payment of £10 a month for 2 years, CCCS are going to pay them £34 a month according to the DMP, i took paperwork into HSBC branch informing them of the DMP the lady i spoke recommended that i open a new bank account, as she said they could take money from my existing account, they havent upto now in the 2 years so far. As my credit rating is cr*p i am finding it hard to get a Basic account, i have tried Citibank and Co-op both recommended on here but i dont have the right proofs of id for the co-op account so i hoping Citibank is ok. Do i really need a new bank account as i have had no trouble with HSBC ?

Hi shellfish - the point is that they could take the money to "offset" your debts. That's why its advised you open a completely new account unrelated to all your other debts.

Last thing you want is for them to suddenly start taking money just when you thought it was all sorted out ;)

The other suggestion is often a natwest step account as a basic bank account - presuming you don't owe Royal Bank of Scotland or Natwest anything at all?
