Thanks TotallyBrassic. I'm starting on the 1st November too but could have started on 1st October so we're getting quite a few calls already. It's been a mixed response but most have been ok once I mentioned CCCS. At least they know we're trying to do something!
My OH said he was very proud of me when he heard me on the phone to (I think) HFC. I feel very empowered by the whole DMP thing and I AM proud to be dealing with it instead of having my head stuck in the sand. As many posters have said before they can't have what I haven't got!!! Most have tried to encourage me to mae some kind of payment over the phone but I have stuck to my guns, told them a token payment will be on its way soon and the DMP starts in November. I think once they sense there's no bargaining to be done they back down a little. Many have been polite and helpful too!I believe the first couple of months are the worst.

so we will be going through it together, it's nice to know we can compare notes...lol
I think it's the best decision we have made for years, just hope I can pull the debt free day forward a bit!
I started my £10 a week pot last week....now I have £20...lololol
have a great day everyone

When is your debt free date? Ours is (yikes) about 2017.
I had to use postal orders as our new account doesn't have cheques (that's already been a bit of a pain as my DD and DSs school want everything paid for by cheque!) I am wondering if we could have a 'normal' account, not just a basic one. It would be useful just for the odd cheque.
I'm looking forward to making my first payment to CCCS anyway!

I used cheques from my new safe account too when I did token payments. Nothing has happened at all, other than them cashing the cheques I sentworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Ooh I've opened a current account! I can have cheques!!!!
Postal orders cost £1.46 for a £1 postal order which is a bit of a pain and it takes ages to buy them but it was SOOOOO worth it! We had opened a basic account with no cheque book on the advice of CCCS which is fine but it has been a bit of a pain not having any cheques (particularly for school things). I'm only going to use it for cheques and said I didn't want the overdraft facility! I really feel like I never want credit again! (Except for mortgage
!)

Right, I see a DFD race coming on.....
lol Can I join the race too please, since my DMP is due to start 1st November too?Haven't got my "Welcome pack" through yet but CCCS say it will all be up and running for my first payment to be made to them by the 1st ... haven't sent out my creditor letters yet, I'm waiting until the last possible minute (ie the day before Lloyds find out my salary isn't being paid into that current account any more and start screaming!) but CCCS do have all the paperwork they need from me to do their thang.
CCCS did tell me that my interim token payments to my creditors can be made from my nice shiny new account's online banking, so at least I don't have to pay for postal orders (I'm loathe to spend any more than I absolutely have to!).
Waiting for the snotty phone calls to start .... I have Lloyds, Egg, Barclaycard, M&S and NatWest to deal with once it all kicks off. Oh joy.

Of course Althea! Egg and Barclaycard have been fine so far. Barclaycard actually recommend CCCS if you're struggling so they should be fine! Not sure about the others.
We also have Cahoot, Virgin, Marbles, Barclay Partner Finance, Hitachi Credit, Student Loans Company, HSBC, ooh and I'm sure there are more!
Aren't CCCS fab! LBM August 2008:eek:Total debt £51914.74 Paid off so far £47,611 DMP started November 08 Current debt £4,303.73Proud to be dealing with OUR debt ! :T0 -
