26,000 miles and its a write off?? what happened to it?? hope you can get it sorted out.

Apparently 3 tonne of welding amongst other things. Its a very reputable local grage that has done us favours in the past so I trust them (luckily!). The problem is its a P reg so thats what -'96? Cost us £300 with MOT and a bit of tax on it and has driven like a charm. If it hadnt been MOT'd I'd not believe anything was wrong with the bloody thing

Just noticed I am right behind you on the dmp numbers! lol

Sorry about the moped comment, i wasn't being flippant, obv if you have a child and such then no good to you.
Could you get a second opinion on the car? Maybe someone else could fix it up cheaper, seems low mileage to be completely crocked!

Have you anything of value which could be sold? We surprised ourselves a few months ago by ebaying lots of bits of clothes, games, dvd's...made about £200. It's well worth a clear out, plus it may bring enough in with this month dmp payment(if cccs will allow it) to sort your car out or buy another :)

Oh I know you werent being flippant hun! But think of the helmet hair. Id go for it if I could carry K and my work stuff on it. (And if I had a licence!) - I work around my DH's shifts and he's the driver bless him but it pays the DMP and contrinute to the household etc. We've used the garage loads and its very well known and reputable (and has done us some favours too in the past) so no worries on that score. Bit miffed that its so utterly unfixable - finding another car as cheap as that will be a giggle.

Like your ebay idea and am still hunting unde beds etc but sold LOADS during my July/Aug challenges so apart from stuff that is nailed down it seems a no-go. Unless they'd take my DH................... :)

    Thanks for replying.

I'm sure garages (Main Dealers) sometimes have PXs available, but I have a feeling they send them straight off to auction. Can you check either of those for a cheap banger?

    Hi,

Reading through your recent posts. Sorry to here about your car. Just an idea, but if could scrap together £200, you could get a cheap banger with tax and test to get you around. You should get at least £50 for your car from a scrap yard, especially if the engine has only done 26,00 miles.

You can always find plenty to choose from in any local free ads paper. But here's a better idea, if you are up for a challenge, you could get a better one by phoning around the main dealer garages in your area and asking if they have any part exchange cars that they are sending to auction. You see the thing is that these garages have to pay a fee to have them auctioned off and some of the cars they get in part ex aren't really worth it because they will only go for peanuts and when all their fees are deducted they are vertually worthless. You can barter with them to see if they would sell you one direct. (Sold as seen, with no warranty) This cuts out them having to dispose of it through the auction process. I've heard of someone who actually bought one of these cars for only £1!!!!!! and it had half a tank of fuel in it!!! You should get something decent for £200.

Just my advice. I know that this idea isn't for everyone, but just thought I would mention it.

    Good luck.

    Cocker :)

Thanks Cocker - will def give that a go. have looked on Ebay and someone is selling a fiesta '96 as spares and repairs and its up to £62 so will def list mine if no-one else is interested. Have a list of car companies (used and new inc polar ford (ha!)) to approach first thing. And am listing anything not yet nailed down on ebay & amazon - it may not give me cash this week when I need it but if I have to borrow from my budget I need to replace it pdq!
    Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I've had a self-pitying cry and rant and am now in full-on "I will not be beaten" mode! Its a real fight against time as I have load sof bookings throughout October that we need the car for which I wont get again if I dont go and will lose table fees etc.

Any "Get cash quick" ideas MUCH appreciated. In fact will also post this on the main board and see how I get on.

Thanks all - keep any ideas coming - bloody determined to make that payment on the 1st regardless and get a banger (everycar we've had has been one lol!). The way I see it is that in Feb & March I dont pay council tax so thats £206 saved and I pay water over 8 months so Nov - Feb will save me £104 which will service / save for banger proof mot or get a new banger when needed next time.

  • Nicky,
you will get there, I am sure that if you list your car on ebay, plus whatever else you can, then you'll raise enough for a new banger :)
Keep the faith, I have even asked around to see if anyone I know is selling a car at mo, but no luck,

Thanks for that. We havn't got a password through from cccs yet to access online, so might just pop a copy in the post to them.

If you go into the cccs site and click on the "access my dmp" button, there's an option in case you've "forgotten" your password - I clcked on that and they sent me one via email automatically. I never did receive one by post!!:D

    Rabbit

Me too, thats how I got my password, glad now I feel better now I can see everything online, it looks like a very good site, I feel so much better now someone else is taking the pressure off. I have even managed to get a few good nights sleep. CCCS have my first payment and have sent out first letters to creditors, I have had 3 letters from 18 saying they accept reduced payments, only start the plan 1st October so time yet....

I have just recieved confirmation from Welcome Finance to cancel PPI insurance and will be getting a refund from them of £339 so that can go into my saving account which I have set up for full & final settlements, I am waiting on a claim with Abbey for Overdraft fees of about £1048, which will go in the pot too. Possible pot of £1387, which could potentially pay off about 7 of my 18 smaller debts.

Anyone tried the full & final settlement route (barclays have put theirs at 75% of the outstanding balance so I have worked this out pro-rata for all the debts - Actual Debts £34,928.57 75% of Debts £26,196.43) may be able to clear debts in half the time if I can manage to get all my junc sold on eBay and Amazon.....
Current Debt £16,364 about to settle following pension payout

Bless! Thanks for the thought! Am trying to get in touch with someone (a mechanic) who does his own welding which is the main job on the car, to see if he'll take it for a modest sum (!) - failing that I cave a list of "cash for spares and repairs" etc places. All cars advertised locally are £400+ - no chance of raising that sadly. Did ring some dealers etc but got laughed at lol - hey-ho!

    Keeping looking!

Well make my first DMP payment today !!! Decided that was the priority and received one letter from Barclays - "We have received your offer of £10.24 for 6 months and we will also reduce the monthly rate to 0.5% for this period".
Very pleased with that! Other people are not getting back to me or cccs but not being !!!!!! either (much). I guess I just wait? Apex who are dealing with my Cahoot loan debt say they havent had any paperwork yet but they are being otherwise fine.

How long did it take for creditors to get back?

My first was First Direct - they rang to accept the day after they got the notification from CCCS I think.

Then it was Ge Money saying they refuse. Then saying they accept the DMP. Then saying they've not received paperwork  - They did accept just the departments don't talk.

Mint credit card and mint loan never got back to me, never acknowledged any letters or anything - just sent a default notice after about 4 months on the DMP and then stopped interest. In fact for Mint Loans I only found out that had officially accepted by doing my £2 credit report where it listed "under arrangement" and my monthly DMP payment to them.

So don't hold your breath for them all to reply ;)
