  • Hi everyone
just looking for a bit of reassurance really. Been dithering for weeks about my debt but know my only option is a DMP. I'm prepared for all the hassle I will get from creditors - calls, letters, abuse etc. but know it will be worth eventually to get my debts sorted. What I am sooooooo scared about is the threat of court action or people arriving on your doorstep - I live with others who do not know about my debt - anyone know how likely this is to happen? My debts are £25000 and I have £230 per month to pay into a DMP with CCCS when I eventually take the plunge. LloydsTSB are by far my biggest debtor and they are not known for their sympathetic attitude to say the least!! Have tried to claim £5000 bank charges from them under hardship rules as I have undergone four ops over the past two years and will not be able to look for work for another three months but they have just sent me a leaflet about contacting the ombudsman and said they didn't consider that my situation had affected the running of my account. Must be joking - lost a £30,000p.a. salary! Any ideas what to do next?
    Thanks

What to do next - don't worry!

While Lloyds are not co-operative and chuffing annoying they are all bark and no bite, I can guarantee you will never have someone on your door from them! I can also guarantee on the flip side you will probably never speak to two people who say the same thing they are that useless!

You read on the main DFW about people turning up etc and thats mainly people who refuse to pay anything. You are not doing that you are paying a bit. Why would they waste money when you have agreed regular payments sending someone round (must cost a fortune!) when there are plenty out there who run and hide from debts?

Court is something no one can guarantee but at the moment it is still pretty rare because again it is costly to them taking you to court. I would take one step at a time, deal with it bit by bit.

The sooner you take the plunge with CCCS the sooner you will get the peace of mind. This time deciding is possibly the hardest and most worrying bit sadly we can see that but you won't until you are the other side coming back and supporting people like yourselves in a few weeks time!
  • Hi Rayday

You've really put my mind at ease! Had a bad night last night -all sorts of scenarios going round in my head - you know how it is. You're certainly right about lloyds not knowing what each other are doing I've lost count of the times I've been passed from dept to dept and told different things - all at my expense. I know you're right and I now have to take the plunge AND GET THINGS SORTED:eek:
  • hello all and all the newbies WELCOME

just seen that rayday has put your mind at rest shouldnobeta

lloyds are a pain, and althogh have no debts with them thank the lord, have put in a massive complaint into my local branch, i posted last friday i think

oh the customer service is dire when they tried to set me up with a potential sales chat,,,so no lloyds not my fave at the moment

so good luck things will sort themselves out

  • Hi everyone
Dont need a number just yet Like someone else said untill the DMP kicks in we are just hopefull DMPers But am on the way
Got my letter from CCCs with my ID number so am getting all the statements togeather
Just a few q's at this time
1st do i cancel the DD for my loan with the bank as it is their loan wont they know something is up before cccs write to them
2nd Because Ive been paying everyone up to now (peter to pay paul sort of thing) I would have a very good credit check so would it be better to open a normal current a/c instead of a basic one. thanks

And like Totally said now I am dealing with this I feel I can help in the future

That said What I am sooooooo scared about is the threat of court action or people arriving on your doorstep -
They will not come to the door or even court imo So long as you were upfront with cccs then THAT's all the spare money there is and all the courts can do is make u bankrupt which means they get NADA

    Monthly CCCS payment 212.00

    Payments made to date 424.00
    Total outstanding debt 15979.91

Now I know you probably dont NEED all of that information but I thought it might help others to see the amount of debt owed and the payments currently being made against each one.

That is not, unfortunately, the total of our debt because we owe family £2200 :o but we pay that separately within the budget agreed with CCCS so that balance is coming down but is not included in the DMP with the other creditors.

Sorry it's such a long post. Hope it helps in some way, especially for those of you just starting out. The phone calls have all eased off except for HSBC!

Have a nice day now :D

    Sx

Just starting mine this is a real help just to see what really happens thanks a lot

    Hiya,
    1. What I did was keep up the payments to the creditor my current account was with until my wages were definitely transferred over to my new "safe" account. I didn't want to risk them taking my wages to pay the credit card. All the others just got token payments and all DD's cancelled ;)

    2. I got an A&L Premier current account just before the DMP started - as long as you make sure you don't take any more credit on (ie request £0 overdraft and no linked credit card) then that's fine. The basic accounts are more if you have trouble getting a current account - like me now wanting another account in case of any issues with the whole Santander group ;)

  • Hi all!

Just a quick update and moan more than anything!

Well, we didn't manage to get the new account set up in time and this morning Bank of Scotland have taken all of my Tax Credits (all £200, absolutley galling). I'm just so gutted:mad:. Now, with it being so close to the end of the month, I don't think we'll have time to set up the details for the new account with the people I have DDs going to. We still don't have our sort code and account number for the new account yet. Fingers crossed it's here tomorrow

I know everything that goes wrong is another step closer to it all being sorted but I just feel a bit as if I'm banging my head against a brick wall, I can't seem to do any of this right and just keep screwing it all up.

Sorry for the rant guys, just needed to let it out a bit!

Markey please don't worry, have a fag or a nice cup of tea (it works wonders :D ) and plan what you need to do, don't beat yourself up too much about the tax credits just make sure you get the account changed so they will be paid next month into the new account. Although I'm not sure but I think you can get that money paid back as it's for your family??? not too sure so please don't take my word.

When I was setting up my DMP, I desperately called round the usual dd's and had missed the payment for my gas. The woman wasn't bothered as it was genuine and said 'you will get a letter saying you have missed the payment, problem with your bank etc please call with new bank account details' and they did. I got a letter and I called them with new details so please don't worry, the gas, electric, water etc will let you know they want their money! :D
