Althea,
I would stop making any full payments from now, cancel any further direct debits and be prepared to make token payments when they are due if your DMP is not set up. CCCS take payments on the 1st of each month. We decided to start in November as our 2 car taxes are up (we would have used CC before!) and we haven't got enough saved. Start saving any 'extra' money you may have by not paying your full payments. You are going to be making reduced payments so you may as well start now! We're going to try and save fro our new budgets with a view to offering F&F payments in the future (if we can - have NEVER had to live within a budget!!).

Oh and you can choose when they start taking payments - within reason of course! Give CCCS a ring and they'll tell you when it could start!

Hi Guys,
After a bit of advice from people on the boards last week I had my appointment over the phone with Payplan today.
Its going to be a long hard slog, 8 years possibly if it runs its full course, hoping to get it paid off quicker with higher paid jobs etc.
A few questions if I may
1) Can I have a number for the board.. I want to be part of the gang!
2) I have a few payments due out in the next few days, Payplan have advised me to cancel all direct debits and send "token" payments, does anyone have a template letter I could use to send these or should I hold fire until my Payplan pack comes through the post?.
3) Did anyone else feel like a big weight had been lifted after the initial phonecall?,
4) is all of your correspondence from creditors sent to Payplan for them to deal with for you?.
Slightly worried about phonecalls and letters from my creditors to be honest...
Due to send first payment on the 20th October.

Hello,
Yet another question.
Does any one have a letter template saying basically:
Please find enclosed my second token payment while I set up my DMP.
XYZ has already accepted my DMP and dropped interest and charges. I suggest you do the same....
but obviously in a better way than that?
thanks

I was threatened with this by 1st Credit DCA!!!(really nasty people)
We were paying them approx £33 per month through our DMP and we were bacisally told that unless we increased our payments to £99 per month, then they would start court proceedings against us, obtain a CCJ and apply for a charging order against our house. We are now paying them the extra (outside of the DMP) by cutting our food budget. They are now playing ball, but we have to stick to these payments or else.
1st Credit are probably the worst of all the DCA's. but if these laws get through, then it wont take long for the others to follow suit. Surely an unsercured debt is just that, UNSERCURED!!! Soon there will be no such thing as unsercured if you own your own home.
Labour is already miles behind in the polls, and will probably lose the next election. If this law is passed then there is no way on earth that they would win. I for one would never vote Labour ever again and I live in an area with a massive Labour majority in every seat. Watch those red areas all turn blue!!!
This new law MUST NOT be allowed to be passed!!!

Hi MrWoody and welcome,
1) I'm sure you can - Rayday will be along soon to allocate you one.
2) I didn't send any letters, just made the token payments at a bank or sent a postal order with the details of the account it was for. Payplan will write to your creditors, so you don't need to.
3) Absolutely, even though I knew there would be bad days ahead, it felt like I'd done something huge to deal with things.
4) Payplan will tell you what to send them when you get your pack through from them. In practice there is very little you need to send them. Basically letters of assignment to a DCA or details of any court action.
Don't worry about the letters and calls. they take about 3 months to die down and I promise you that they will. Once they see regular payments it makes a huge difference. I get no calls at all anymore and just the odd letter now and then (mostly from Lloyds who don't have a clue).
You've taken the first step, it'll just take a while for things to sort themselves out.LBM : March 2008

I agree Cocker. I live in a very Conservative area so I will be writing to my local MP. If I'd wanted a secured loan, i would have taken one in the first place especially as interest rates are generally lower on secured loans.
This really is worrying. I'm only 5 years away from paying off my mortgage, which is only small, and can't afford to rent anywhere, hence the reason I took unsecured loans. It does seem that courts are favouring the creditor and i think that due to the credit crunch and people reclaiming bank charges, creditors are now panicking.
Worries me a lot as I have a bit of equity in my property and can't afford to lose it. I'm sure there are plenty more in the same boat.

(very weird! the next 2 sentances were replying to someone who was querying about cancelling a DD for their loan .. now I cant find it so I look like I am talking to myself LOL)
I know I haven't been allowed to cancel/stop the HSBC loan S/O from debiting my HSBC overdrawn bank account ... every month in it goes .. gets bounced and I get charged for it
Apparently they will consider cancelling it WHEN I make a payment arrangement that pleases them  dream on I now say to myself, they can have my CCCS payment and no more
I do actually have something I am a wee bit worried about adn wondered if anyone was in same boat. I have been paying my Gas/Electric by Direct Debit, I have just received a bill from nPower thats a massive £800 for the twoNow they haven't increased the payment yet but I know they are going to.
I have actually been on Income Support for the last 12 months following redundancy and I was investigating the use of their Direct Payments for utilities, but despite actually working for DWP and being very familiar with all their written laws etc the practicality of actually taking these steps is puzzling me
Do I need to cancel the current Direct Debit to force them to switch me to paper billing so I can then officially be 'in arrears' and thus apply for the reduced amount to be deducted from my Income Support? Wouldn't this go against the CCCS rule of making sure you pay your priority debts? Any advice welcome :A0 -

Thanks for the reply, its so good knowing that there is so much support here!
Could I make those token payments via internet banking or is this not a wise move?0
