Sunshine, I use my visa electron card for everything and feel like a first class citizen because I can only use the money I have in the account which shows I'm definately not borrowing off the bank or robbing Peter to pay Paul as I did in the past. You should hold your head up high and feel the same! Oh, the joy of having only one card and cash in my purse!!

    hiya all

just updated on the few days worth of posts

i now believe in cash,,,,money in my hand is worth 2 visa cards in my purse,,,lol

no seriously, i try to pay by cash wherever i can now, i feel that im making better judgements too when shopping. I am sticking to my budget better and writing stuff down, keeping a log really helps you keep focused

it is actually quite liberating, and i wished id done it years ago, but we as a family are doing everything we can to teach our 16 year old about budgeting, cooking and being aware of different costs so she understands how much stuff costs now and also to help her budget money whilst at college

have a good day everyone and keep happy

    ciao for now laters maz

  • Hi all,

Just been reading through the posts on the Electron debit card and the various problems with certain places not accepting them. I cant see anyone that has mentioned the Solo debit card. This is the basic version of the old Switch card (now Maestro). I have one of these and I have never been told I cant use it, either on line or in the shops. Dont know if it depends on what bank you use as to what card you get (I'm with Nat West), but I'd advise anyone who needs a basic bank account, to get one with a Solo card, as it works just as well as my old Lloyds Visa debit card did.

I too have a Solo card and have never had a problem - although I do tend to draw cash out of the machine now, as it seems more "real" and sometimes makes me think twice!!
  • Hello,

There are 5 of us, me, OH and 3 very hungry boys!! Nappies and baby wipes take up roughly £10 of the budget straight away and we go though bread and milk like you wouldn't believe. About a loaf every 2 days and 3-4 pints of milk a day.
