For the 1st payment I don't think cccs mind if it's a couple of days late. However, are you in a position to pay it in a couple of days early. I paid my 1st payment using my online banking.

Don't get paid till 31st so couldn't pay it any earlier, but I could do it via online banking as well, just thought it had to be done at PO, thanks

I think it says in the pack that you have to pay it at the post office but I suppose as long as they get the money it's Ok. Give them a ring or send them an email, I'm sure paying it a couple of days late would be fine anyway.

  • Sorry, always seem to be on here asking stuff and I'm not any help to anyone else!

We set up a basic bank account with the Co-operative bank yesterday, we got a joint account, weheras we've both had our own accounts before. Does anyone know if it takes them long to switch our DDs etc to the new account? My OH set up an account with Alliance and Leicester about a year ago and it took them weeks to get it all sorted out. Hope the same doesn't happen again. I'm a bit worried about all the 1st of the month DDs, don't know whether to leave the money in my old account or if the new one will be ready.

Nevermind, I'm so glad this seems to be the final hurdle before everything is set up :)

Sorry, I don't know the answer to this one even though I have a co-op account. I found it easier to cancel the DD's myself and set them up on the new account myself. That way I knew exactly where I was.

I'm sure someone else will know the answer for you.

    Hi Markey,
We're in the same boat, DDs to go out from 1st October, still at old bank whilst our salary will be paid into our new accounts. I was going to call them all this week and explain. I'm hoping I can make my own online payments of the correct amounts while the DDs are being set up. Not sure how long this takes!

Same here, I was recommended (On here) to do the DDs myself, and all of the companies I spoke to were really helpful and accomodating considering how close to the end of the month I was. Remember to cancel the old DDs, but there is a risk that it won't transfer in time and you're left with an unpaid DD. So the earlier you can transfer, the better.

Interestingly, Virgin Media have added a £10 late payment fee which I will attest, and my Council Tax, after sending me a bill equivalent to 2 months CT, have now spread the amount owing over the remaining 5/6 months payments of the year, which I thought was rather nice of them.

So far, we've opened our new bank accounts, changed as many direct debits as we can, cancelled some of them  and then thought "When will HSBC twig something is amiss?" Well, we had a call today and I think they have as we haven't paid our cc this month but didn't want to tell them about the DMP until we'd arranged for our wages to be paid into the new account. Phew. Anyway one last dd to go out on Monday then it's time to fess up. DH is feeling a little guilty but we've paid thousands in bank charges (not got any back) so I'm not!
We had our first default notice today and have had a few late payment letters. Only MBNA have acknowledged our situation so far. Have told HFC (Marbles) on the phone (twice) but keep getting letters (and more calls) from them. They seem desperate to get more work/ home contact details but I said I'd rather not be contacted by phone and would appreciate it if they wrote to us instead. Want to say "Unless one of my relatives dies and leaves us some money we've no more to pay." Do you think that will shut them up? I suspect not.

Well, looking forward to what happens next! (In a strange 'I'm in control' kind of a way...)

    Markey77,

Just wanted to say, asking questions on here is a help to others who may be in a similar situation, or have the same creditors, etc - so don't beat yourself up thnking you are not any help to anyone else, because you are!!:A :D
