  • To be totally honest, up until a few months ago I was absolutely terrified at the prospect of claiming charges. I then decided that I didn't really have anything to lose but everything to gain. I could never have done it without this site though. Its great that the letter templates are all there just to insert your details on to.
  • Magenta, we have all cried I'm sure. I remember that dark, wet, horrible February night. I had phone calls and letters from creditors coming out of my ears. I had no money to pay these people. In short my finances were a mess. When I got paid each month it just about cleared the OD and then it all started again. The never ending cycle. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep and life was hell. I was missing payments on everything. A DMP changed my life.

Just a thought is mortgage repayment? Is it an option for you to swap to interest only for a while? Just to free up a bit of money?
  • Thank you for the nice things you've said - I;m now sat here crying which I figure is a good thing - I've not cried over money at all I've just kept going and I figure it's better out than in. I'e done the cccs thing and it says they need to talk to me and to ring them so I'll have to do that tomorrow after work. I'm just scared of everything at the minute and I'm so frightened of losing my house - it's all I've got and I've worked really hard for it. I just feel like running away but then I'll lose neverything anyway

But you are not going to run away, are you? You are going to stay here with us while you take little baby steps to regaining control :D .

Yes, it's a good thing to have a cry and let all of your frustrations out (but dont do it for too long now, will you - I dont know how to pass cyberspace tissues to you :o ).

You will be absolutely fine talking to the nice people at CCCS, deep breaths beforehand (and a spare few tissues "just in case" you get a bit emotional). I felt so much better when I actually spoke to them and they remind you that you, as a person, are entitled to "live" and not worry yourself to death - they remind you that the creditors "cant have what you havent got". Good luck with talking to them and dont forget to let us know how it all goes.

How are you finding your new job? Have you made any new friends? I've only been in my new job for about 7 weeks now and although I've chatted with people in general, I havent made any "real" friends there yet and sometimes that can make me feel a bit lonely. The job itself is fine, some things just take a bit more time (or it could it just have something to do with the deoderant I'm using , :rotfl: ).

If you can face doing it, the statement of affairs idea is a very good one. On the main DFW board the guys and gals might be able to help with some other money saving suggestions if you want to post it up on there - it's worth a try if you feel up to it.

Hope you are starting to feel a bit calmer now? I know how hard it is being faced with the threat/fear of losing your home as I have been there and lived to tell the tale (not that you wanna hear the tale - but I did keep my house :D ) so dont give up hope, not yet, you've got lots of avenues to explore and feel free to ask as many questions as you like :D

  • Hi Magenta and welcome

You're not stupid at all...(and I racked up my debt all by myself... so what would that make me?!) and more to the point you are doing the right thing by posting here and getting the invaluable support from these guys. Six weeks ago I was at my wits end and not able to sleep or eat or concentrate on anything before posting on here. I was so touched by all the help and support I got I was in tears...but it really gave me the support and strength to start sorting myself out.

It doesn't matter how we all got into this situation, what's important is that we are all taking steps to get OUT of it...baby steps they may be sometimes, but it's moving forward and really taking control of the situation...and looking to the future rather than to the past....

I would definitely call CCCS. I thought they were really helpful. They were very patient and very reassuring. I also called national debtline who were great and sent a lot of paperwork and information. I know it's easier said than done, but try to stop panicking. There is always a solution and now with as much information as you can get, you will be able to work out the solution that is right FOR YOU.

And do post on here as much as you want to. These guys are great. They gave me real confidence to start dealing with my debts and I can't tell you how invaluable that was...and there is lots of practical advice too.

Stick around.....we will all get through this together.... xx
  • Hi Magenta, just wanted to check in and see if you were ok? I'm going to have to log off now as my daughter is not feeling too well and has started being sick. Hope you get a good night's rest. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. Take care, S x

    Welcome Magenta!

These guys are fantastic on here and give all sorts of advice and encouragement!

I phoned up PayPlan and they were a great help, and in the same way as CCCS, work out how much (if any) surplus you have to pay off creditors. My first payment is due next week (Yay!).

As to mortgage payments, my company can provide payment holidays (I think min of 3 months, max 1 year), and they recalculate your mortgage payments after accordingly. Not sure how it would work if you were to go on a DMP though?
