This site lists the prices and highlights the best deals for various TomTom devices at major UK retailers - http://www.find-tomtom-deals.co.uk/. When you find a deal you like, rather than clicking straight through, see if you can grab some cash back through TopCashBack or a similar site.

Not the best site as prices are wrong!!!!

    Eg:

TomTom XL GB Live Says amazon £134.99 but the price is £159.98 on site

I have just bought a TomTom XL Ed 2 for my son's Christmas present . Ordered it online from Halfords ( through the site below) and by doing so got a £5 discount in addition to the instore discount.
In addition by going through http://www.topcashback.co.uk I got it with the cash back for £110.32.
    Forgotten but not gone.
  • I'm off to the states next year.I own a Garmin 250w, which has been great in both the UK and Europe. My question is, can I update this model to include the USA or would it be better/cheaper to buy a new unit.Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Have a look at the Garmin map prices and compare them with the cost of a new unit bought in the US. Somewhere like Walmart or Target or BestBuy.

I've read that some people buy one from Walmart and then take it back under their returns policy, but I suspect that would need a good read of their terms and conditions.

I think you'll find that buying a new one in the US is much the same cost as buying the map here.

Of course you need to be able to find your way from the airport to the store first!:)

Hi, I have TomTom on SD card and was wondering what's the cheapest GPS-ready device to use it on. I have an old iMate PDA-N which has just died on me after years of good service. I'm considering looking up eBay for a replacement but would prefer something new which would come with a warranty. cheers

you could get a mobile phone or any screen that has a gps chip in it and load it onto that or try an ebuyer sat nav for about £50.00 and put it on that
  • Hi

I have just seen this Garmin sat nav - has anyone used it? How does Garmin compare to Tomtom?

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168839

I had a Navman which took ages to get a signal plus has stopped working after 18 months.

    Thanks

The top 6 'best buys' from Which? are all Garmin, if that helps. The model you're looking at is 4th of 21 'best buys' and has 10 reviews, the majority good. It may be worth getting a trial subscription to Which? to read them, or just take my word for it!! HTH

And don't forget nearly all local libraries in the UK have 2 years of Which? back numbers to read in situ.

Thanks for that. Will have a look at Which. Good to here that Garmin are a good brand. Dont particularly want to pay for the label with Tom Tom

All Android based mobiles have Google maps which includes turn by turn voice navigation and a form of live traffic info (trunk roads only) free of charge.

GPS manufactures are terrified of losing market share especially as you can buy Orange San Fransico android phone for around £100
