Well I now have an interview of sorts for a job on thursday.

My joy is a bit tempered by it being a 'group interview' what ever that means. For FOUR HOURS:eek:

So I will go along for the experience and see what happens.

    Hi Chev,

Congratulations on making the short-list! :D

I've observed a couple of this type of interviews, though never been on the sharp end (as it were). If you're given puzzle solving tasks, they'll be looking for people who can co-operate, work in a team, and for evidence of leadership abilities [quick thinkers] within the group.

Make sure you've eaten a decent meal before going in - four hours is a long time to have to *sparkle* in strange company. Especially if the bosses test you as a group for the first three hours, then spend the last hour giving their favourites an individual interview.

So what does this job entail? It's good that you've got a few days to research the firm - that always goes down well. ;)

I wish you the very best of luck - will be thinking of you on Thursday (though not sure of the time difference?). :)

Robin, think of me late Wednesday night thanks! It is for a jewellery retailer, so not especially high powered. I think I will see how things are going. If everyone else is doing well at it, and I am struggling, then I may well gracefully back out at lunch time -assuming we get one.....

I am now after 6 months having a go with a bread machine I got off freecycle. So far it seems to be going so all good....The only thing is I can't get the blessed paddle off the spindle thing that sticks up from the middle of the pan. I have tried everything short of pliers to pull it out. So I guess it either recesses during the bread cooking process, or else it is stuck. Which will make getting the cooked bread out of the bread pan, 'very' interesting.

Good luck at the interview but don't walk out as it's not over until the fat lady sings

Hi thanks for the positive vibes. Really is appreciated

Well it was quite interesting. First off it was unusual for me in that they had the head of recruitment there, and a chief executive! For shop assistant jobs for heavens sake!

On the other hand, they did have a very focussed message, about where they wanted to be as a business. They currently have 250 stores world wide and they want to have 1000 by 2022:eek:. They don't have a problem buying the sites/leases (so must be very cash rich in these economic times), just need the right people.

So we had the company spiel, and what the benefits are etc. I was pretty impressed actually. One of their clubs is if you sell a diamond ring over 5000 you get a gold M pin to wear. It has 18 holes in it. Each time you sell another 5000 dollar ring, they set a diamond in a whole. And then when that is full you go onto a bangle etc etc. There were managers there, who had the pin, a bangle and 2 or 3 other piece of jewellry all set with diamonds to show they had sold tens of rings over 5000 dollars (about 2500pounds).

Then we had to stand up and do 2 minutes on us, background etc. Interestingly there was only ONE person there who was a new zealand born national!

Then group exercises, which were ok, and a short interview where we were in a room with 6 other managers conducting interviews. Very weird!

Anyway I don't think I will have got it. In two minds. I was probably the most formally dressed person there except for 1 male candidate. So that was a plus I think as their dress code is VERY strict. But I don't think I did all that well in the interview.

There are 6 jobs going and there were 20 people there *shrugs shoulders
