  • Chevalier, we are all different, and if our " makeup" says we get upset because ones we love don't send us cards or presents at special times, then so be it.Maybe you should see what their reaction would be if you don't send presents either.I'm not saying tit for tat, just a statement these things aren't important?

My heart goes out to your mum. Is it possible for your mum to help, for instance, more with her grandchildren? In return, maybe you could "relinquish" one of your days and spend some time with your mum. Sadly, maybe she just needs a piece of you which you don't have to give. In the future, would you look back with regret, and wish, if only?

Its only time. Time is timeless? isn't it? Time is a generousity of spirit.

Go for a walk along the beach with your mum and actively clear your mind. When thoughts come into your mind, replace them with what is around you.

    all the best

  • Hi Chev, I have no patience when it comes to my mother, she is very high maintenance and a lot of the time she seems off with the fairies in another place (it is a happy one :D). It is really sad but I couldnt contemplate a more than a weekend with my mother let alone 12 weeks so I understand how you must be feeling ;)

Like others have said, could you maybe sit with her and plan some outings for her. At least that way you know she will go and you are not leaving it to her to arrange things

Itsa and beani thank you for making me feel a bit less of a heal!

I am going to sit her down tonight and try and get her signed up on something. She agreed to this before she came, so it isn't as if it is a surprise for her.

I am full of cold though, so maybe tomorrow groan.

    Hi Taxi
Thanks for thinking of me, but we are on the North Island well away from the quake.

But poor sods down there. I really feel for them. 26000 homes have no power, and of course everyone will have been stocking up on their christmas meat and everything.:(

Also there has been a load of liquifaction again in several of the suburbs, which will cause major heartache, to people who have had to cope with it twice before already.

    Hello chevalier,

I thought I would come across here and find out why you weren't getting a present from your husband, and have just read the sad news about your sister and about the £36k. :(I'm so sorry chev. You are being remarkably strong.

  • Hey Chev!

Here's me babbling on about nail varnishes and weddings!

My oh my you've had a rollacoster year! SO sorry to read about it girl! If that was me i would be a heap on the floor bubbling into my nail varnishes... but you are sounding so strong for both you and your family!

Keep positive (a home, 2 lovely boys and It COULD have been up around 58k) and lessons learned (check your insurance) on that note I think I'll be checking out ours at the beginning of the year! May need to pop back in for advice on that one xx

I did get something, but i wrapped it up myself. He is just useless at shopping, most years. Thing is I want the present to be a surprise, not something I have told him to get. sigh

So long as you're happy to get powertools, I can't see any reason why he can't buy for you.

A good grinder would be a surprise...
