thanks for the advice regarding clothes decluttering, i think i just need to get EVERYTHING out on the bed and really look at it all. I kind of wonder whether one of the reasons i am not losing weight is because subconsciously i have all these clothes that are x size, and i kind of think that i SHOULD be using them still... not sure if that is a very good explanation but...
    chev

For me putting the clothes on the bed didn't work, I had to try everything on and look in the mirror and be brutally honest, but that's just me :o

On the losing weight front, I know they say you have to want to do it for you, but for me a turning point was realising that being overweight made it less likely I'd be around for my kids & OH, so it was in everyone's best interest that I allowed myself time and money to sort it out - it did include buying some clothes during the weightloss as feeling as though you look good gives more confidence and helps you carry on with the weight loss.

I can understand what you're saying about the clothes though, money was tight when I did my big weight loss too, but there's always a reason to put the diet off, the main thing is to find reasons why now is the right time for you to diet and succeed.

    Hi Chev!

Re the clothes thing, Hypno's idea is a good one. I have a problem with getting rid of clothes that in some way have an emotional attachment. I have a bright blue silk blouse that no way will I ever fit into again, but it sits in my wardrobe because I wore it to my Uncle's funeral, and as such it feels like a "link" to a much loved man who is missed by us all on a daily basis, even 13 years on. Of course it's no such link - the link is the memories of Uncle Bob (Yes, I really was entitled to use the phrase "Bob's your uncle"!) and the things that I see, and do, and think "Bob would have loved this". That is the first time I have been able to actually articulate that. :o

If you REALLY feel you can't get rid of stuff (and remember, where it is good, and still wearable, it's not going to be wasted because it will go to the charity shop I assume and then get bought by someone who will wear it) why not do the "cull" and then set aside everything you've pulled out into bags or cases and put in your attic or whatever storage you use for the out of season clothes. Label the bags clearly. Then if you decide that you really can't cope with the bits you've got left, you still have the other stuff. Of course, if you don't touch those bags all summer, they go to the charity shop!

Good luck! Hope that shoulder is better soon xx

EH are you into crafts/sewing at all. You could use the fabric in a patchwork or to make a cushion, so you'd remember when you saw the item you've made. You could also use the silk as a backing for mounting a photo of your Uncle.

An alternative on one of those clutter clearance tv programs years ago, was a woman who had lots of clothes and things she was emotionally attached to. So instead of the whole thing, squares of each item were cut with pinking shears and put in a memory box with other small keepsakes.

Thanks SE - that's a good idea, but unfortunately that is not my kind of skill. I think that actually having articulated the whole thing though might have taken me a step towards being able to do the right, and sensible thing, that being to give the blouse a wash and pop it into the charity shop bag. :o

Well done on the list Chev! You'll fly through this weeks stuff I bet! Oh, and fingers crossed!

Was quite embarassing at immigration:o. There is this long queue of people of every ethnicity except white and me. And then the case worker comes out and waves me to the front of the queue takes the information I need and I am off out in less than 5 minutes. ...... and all the other people are still in the queue:o:eek:

Still they are hoping that I might get a decision in a couple of weeks:j:jThis is the first good news I have had about this process!

I think it's like everything with diets, you need to find what works for you.

Lots of people use SMART to set goals:
Specific, Measurable, Achievable,Realistic and Time Framed.

For me what worked was lots of little goals/steps. I measured my total weight in lbs and in lbs and stones, and set lots of mini targets of the next quarter stone, or getting to the 5 or 10 lb step, so most of the time a target was achieved quite quickly and I'd just move on to the next. I never actually set an end target weight. Although with the current diet/exercise I'm trying to do that, maybe that's why I'm finding it more difficult this time - I'll have to go back to the old system that worked :o

Hypno allowed herself treats en route when she got to interim targets.

Maybe the picture of the ultimate goal new you will work, some people have the pair of jeans they want to fit into. We're all different, so you just need to find a way of setting your target/targets that works for you.

Well done on volunteering for the walking bus, that's going to help with increasing the exercise anyway.
