Pawn shops- got any jewellry ?
Quite honestly sell anything that isn't nailed down as anything towards what you need is going to be less to borrow at silly interest rates. And will be less to move :)
Carboot, free local paper advertising, newsagent boards are all good and don't ignore ebay as anything you put on today on a 5/7 day sale should hit the bank in time.

  • and I am fairly sure that right move .com do renting?

I looked on up your income last night and couldn't really see anything that had a quick turn over.

my last crazy idea is to pawn any thing vaulable, but thats a bit bonkers and scary in that you might lose it. so ignore that idea.

one more idea - you sure you don't have any old savings accounts or those bond things you have forgotten about? I know a) you probably haven't and b) it wouldn't add to much but hey lets leave no stone unturned! what about lottery tickets? (desperate ideas I know! sorry)

also - could you enter any competions there is a board on here that helps people and ooo I thought of something else just then but the radio distracted me. curse my morning gold fish brain.

    ((((hugs))))))

I will be back to annoy you later !

please don't be offended by my suggestions, I know they are all a bit carp but sometihng might come out of it.

    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • http://essex.gumtree.com/ Should be some on there. The classified section of your local newspaper will run adverts. If you have a blue paper and a yellow paper, can't think what they were called, Bargain Pages possibly, there should be some ads in there. The notice boards in your local supermarkets, cards in post office windows.

Finding private rentals is more of a trawl than going through an agent but the savings can be worth it.

    Hope you get on ok.

Sorry now I have woken up a bit more a slightly more comprehensive suggestion.
I would seriously suggest approaching landlords and asking them outright if they would consider having you pay £x more a month for the first say 3 months to gradually pay the deposit. Be honest and explain that it's because you've sold your house and although it's covering the mortgage etc it's not leaving you with any money for a deposit when you walk away. You can however afford to pay the rent and extra payments for the first month and so on.
A lot of landlords are very understanding if you're honest with them :)

    Poosmate... was it Blue Monkey?
I think that the suggestion of approaching landlords and being honest may be your best bet?

I am so so touched by all your replies. Even though you all have issues of your own your generosity with your time and advice is very humbling - thank you.

I don't really own much of value - have never done ebaying and not sure if I could learn quickly enough to make the amount I need in a couple of weeks.

I am going to see whether we can extend one of our credit cards so we'll see what they say. I will also investigate private landlords (not as in Magnum you understand) and see if there are any suitable properties out there.

    Seriously guys.....you are the best!

Quick update....phoned the CC company but their credit limits are extended by the computer selecting accounts, looking at their useage and payment history and then possibly extending the credit limit.

    Oh well......

I'm sure youve looked into this but you are paying a lot of your debt with the house sale; could you withhold some of the monies for the deposit.

I probably shouldn't sugges this but don't authorise your solicitor to pay the estate agent - advise you will do so direct. Then you can pay them after completion?

Please can anyone offer any information or advice on Capital One's CC. They are offering an APR of 34.9% (high, but not extortionate) and £2,500 to spend which would go a huge way towards our needs.

I don't want a credit search if they are cowboys. Anyone used them?

Thanks for the suggestion Peb - how would that work. Should we just be upfront and say "look, we really need this money for our deposit or we can't move - can we pay you back say £1000 a month over 3 months" (as that is how much we will owe them)?

That seems a bit cheeky.....but brilliant.

    What do you all think?
