Thanks, but don't think we can ebay enough to make £3,500 in a couple of weeks. If you think it's possible, please let me know.

  • sorry Suzy! didn't mean to go off topic.

    (waves to SS)

so you need 3500 to move house - including deposit I do think the credit union is the way forward if there is one.

nothing else big you can sell?

God this is so annoying, you are right there and then its one last jump.

    hmmm.

    have you applied for AQA?

mind you that might take some time........

Funnily enough I applied for my pack and test on Friday and (if accepted) will use that as extra towards the debt. I know, it's just so frustrating. We have the money for the rent plus money to start paying off our debts, just not enough to make the leap.

Thanks so much for all your interest. It means a lot.

  • right, first off where there is a will there is a way.

have you got any friends/family who can put you up if needs be?

it is entirely possible I am sure to get this money, with a little more time.

do yo know anyone who is a landlord? who could help out re giving you some breathing space? any connections at all might be worth a go.

I am going go to have a look on the up your income board.

  • I would suggest looking for a private rental rather than through an estate agent. A private landlord might be more sympathetic to your situation and you could do a deal on the deposit. They also tend to be cheaper than going through an agent.

Could you stay with friends/family and put your stuff into storage?

Re: Credit Unions - not sure if they are all the same but we have one at work and you have to pay £x in each month from your salary but can't borrow anything for a certain length of time and then it's only something like 2.5 times what you've already saved. I didn't join because it wasn't offering much.

Would it be so bad to go into b&b for a short time? I saw someone's thread on here once and she told her kids they were going to be like on holiday and they were very excited about it and the place she was put in wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. I know it's not ideal but it does give you a bit of breathing space, also, if you do that would you not be considered more urgent for rehousing and be a priority for the local council to rehouse you? If that's the case you wouldn't need to find £3.5k for up-front rent - problem solved - sort of.

I wish I could remember the name of the thread or the original poster as I'm basing my comments on my memory of that thread. Does anyone else know of the thread I am talking about. The lady in question has a son with AD?? doh! can't remember.. it's too late in the night or too early in the morning.....

Sorry I'm rambling - must get some sleep!

Hope you manage to sort something out.

Thanks for your replies last night (and this morning) - sorry, I was so tired I had to get some shuteye.

Pooh, we can afford to rent privately - there's no question of that so we would not be rehoused. We've been through all that at a meeting with the Housing Department last week. It's just the money for the deposit we need. Ho hum......

And yes, I think a B&B would be that bad. People at work know we are moving, family know we are moving. What do we say to them. If we have not got the money for the deposit, how are we going to find the money for storing a 3-bed house worth of furniture? The children are too old (mid to late teens) to fob them off with a "we're going on an adventure" type of story. The lady from the Housing department said she really could not see us "in a place like that" so I don't know what temporary accommodation is like round your way, but it sounds pretty grim round here for her to say that.

Thanks for your input tho. Reading this back it might seem like I'm being very dismissive of your ideas - I'm not. I've just been there already. But thanks so much Pooh. If you think of anything else please let me know.

We will look at renting privately - don't really know where to start though. Are there any sites on the Net where I can look?
