    Hey guys

Complete scrapbook novice here............and I mean complete! Hoping someone can help me though, I was thinking of starting small........maybe a little book of quotes or something? I have lots of papers and some embellishments from some other projects. My problem is that I dont know where to get the little book thing (see I dont even know what its called!) I have tried looking on ebay but since Im not actually 100% sure what Im looking for it makes it hard :rotfl:

    Can anyone help me?

I think I know what you mean. You could make one and use rings to attach it all together. There are some here:

I think ebaying chipboard books or mini books, or 6x6 scrapbook might help?
  • It's my birthday today and I got a crop-a-dile and a making memories stamp set :) Perfect for my scrapbooking.

Also got money from my parents which I am going to spend on a Big Shot and alphabet dies.

I don't know whether to wait till the Farnborough Make It show though. Or do you think it'll be cheaper online?

Great you got a crop-a-dile, they are very useful! I love mine! (once I had the courage to work out how to use it!)
It's difficult to say whether the Big Shot will be available cheaper at the show, but personally I'd wait to see if it was at the Show on offer and if not, buy it online after.

    Have a great birthday!

Not sure exactly what size and type you're after, but you don't have to buy one from a shop or ebay to start with. You could make your own quite easily with just card and paper.

Found this that may help (lots of types of albums to make) and there are loads of other sites with instructions too. I asked for 'Make your own mini scrapbook' on google.

  • Hi yer all, just having a nose around and came across you lot of scrappers. I`ve just started up, after about a year, so it`s great see what others are doing after such a long break. I`ve promised myself to do a book for 2010, so have had a few photos printed off and started on my first page today. After such along time, it`s a bit nerve racking, but when i`ve finished i`ll pop it onto my blog and maybe you can let me know what you think.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY helping_hubby, have a fab day.

LoopyLinz - I first started scrapbooking by buying a little mini kit from qvc - it had the album, papers and stickers - all I needed to add to it was tape!! You can use anything you want though - you could make a mini book from just cutting up cardboard to use as the pages, then punching them with a hole punch and using either book rings or ribbon to bind it. Another idea is to make a scrapbook out of paper bags, I've even seen people make mini books out of the inside of toilet rolls!!!

Helping-hubby - Happy Birthday!!!! I'm planning on getting a big shot too, the cheapest price that I've seen them for online is at craft superstore for £54.95, although I think I've got a 10% off voucher code somewhere if you want it. When is the show on??? If it was soon I might be inclined to wait - but if it was months away I don't think I could wait that long!!!

    MrsBsBlog - hello!!!!

looplinz - I did two small scrapbooks for my sons last year using board books I'd got from a website -one of the craft ones but can't remember which.
I used quotes on music for one and art for the other and appropriate embellishments.
I printed the quotes out from 'word' then tore them off, dabbed some cold tea on them to give a bit of an 'aged' look before I stuck them in. (idea from rainmac)

I'm still a 'novice' but want to do it 'proper' this year.

melissa - thought I'd joined jamtarts scrapbook class - ooops............maybe I thought I had but didn't. Must sort that out.
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Wow! A big big thank you to you all for your help and advice!

I think I might have a go at making my own  :rotfl: I have the papers and stuff here that I need so thinking it will give me something to 'play around' with. Then if it all goes wrong I havent really lost anything!

No doubt I will be on here countless times a day screaming for help and advice!

Its hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........

People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!
  • awww thanks for the happy birthdays. I turned 30 so I feel a bit funny about it. And I've had a really rubbish birthday. :(

@melissa - yep that's the cheapest I've found too from the same shop :) The craft show is on 27th feb so not too long to wait. Maybe I can hold out a few weeks.

Look forward to seeing all your pages...

Sorry you had a 'rubbish' birthday helping_hubby, maybe you could cheer yourself up by doing some nice scrapbook pages with your new goodies?

I've put this on the recycled crafts thread but I made a valentine music scrapbook last night made out of old 7" records. I didn't use the actual records themselves, I photocopied them on my printer. I also copied some old record covers too and used them as the scrapbook covers.

Details are on my blog but this is how it looks:
    Front cover:

    Back cover:
    SDC11574.jpg
Inside I put black card for 'records' where I will add all our musical memories, lyrics and embellishments:
