    Hi all,

I wanted to use lamb for lasagne instead of beef, but couldn't find many recipes so i was wondering if it does actually taste ok using lamb?

    Thanks x

I don't give my children beef so we have lasagne made with either lamb mince or turkey mince. I just use exactly the same recipes or jars as for beef and it always turns out fine.

Lamb is more greasy than beef or turkey so I usually try and scoop some of the fat off before assembling the lasagne.

Just to follow on from this, I made bolgnese sauce with quorn mince over Xmas when some veggie friends were here. DD1 didn't realise it wasn't meat although DD2 picked at it - I think it was a texture thing.

I used mixed the leftover quorn into my lamb bolognese a couple of days ago and no-one noticed (not even OH). I used up the quorn and had a (slightly) healthier meat bolognese sauce - result.

Yes Quorn is a good subsititue, I add that if I find it on offer/reduced but following a recommendation I now add the flavoured soya from Holland and Barrett, so much cheaper than Quorn! Noone knows the difference :) I do usually use some lamb mince or whichever I have in with it.

  • When I fry Lamb (or Pork) mince I chuck it into a sieve and press it with the back of a wooded spoon, you can gets loads of fat out that way. This is saved for roasties and such like.
The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...
  • I always use pork mince for lasagne (and everything really as OH won't eat beef or lamb) - I think it's just as nice. I only get to eat beef when we eat out :)

Make a bolognese sauce (mince onions garlic, italian herbs and of course tomatoes). make a cheese sauce. (butter and flour, add milk, and melt grated cheese into it). Buy some lasange sheets. layer it in a big dish, meat sauce, lasagne sheets, cheese sauce, meat sauce, lasagne sheets, cheese sauce, and top with grated cheese.
Bake for about half an hour, or until piping hot.
