Morning all! Ive goota go back to work today after only one day off so im a bit exhausted as I spent most of the day cleaning etc! At least its all nice now....

Today ive got a few things to do and must not forget (like petrol expense claim!) and then dinner tonight will probably be something simple - probably with mashed potato. Expecting a delivery today (mp3 player to give me something to listen to on the bus now that im being all good to the environment and not using the car unless absolutely necessary) and tonight wil consist of loading tracks on to it before bed and a whole new work day....

Hope everyone has a good day!

  • morning and happy birthday to all!(great idea)

I'm pleased you like it, I'd have done it myself but I'm afraid that I'm alway in my pit when the diary gets started :o

P-P has improved on my idea, I thought that we should just wish happy birthday to the regular Old Stylers but that isn't really fair, just because people don't post on here doesn't mean that they don't read it, so it's Happy Birthday to all MSEers today, thanks P-P you made it better!

It's an Ebay packing day today, I turn the kitchen into a the packing bay, I used to use the dining table but it's far too low and after a couple of hours I'd get backache, the kitchen counters are more suitable.

I go to Marks and Spencers every Monday for an elderly lady that's housebound and is a bit too frail to cook any more, she has all the plated up ready meals that they make so she can just pop them in the microwave.
I always have a mooch around to see that they have and I always come away with a bit of a smug feeling when I see some of the things they sell as I can make it for a fraction of the price but there is the tiniest, tiniest tweak of envy when I see some of the things they have, like all the deli selections but they seem so expensive and I just don't feel comfortable paying their prices. I come away thinking that when the Uni fees and expenses and the mortgage is paid off in 3 years I might just be coming home with a few things for us as well, on the other hand I might still think that they are too expensive!

Monday is also my box scavenging day, there is a Crabtree and Evelyn shop in town and their boxes are the best, they are always neatly opened, sturdy, good shapes (supermarket ones tend to be flat and long) and they smell wonderful, it's a pleasure to work with them! I always nip into the shop to ask before I pick them up but no-one passing sees this they just see me rifling through the bags and shoving stuff in the car....:o

I don't do these diaries very often because I never do anything that would interest anyone.....I just proved my point...

Apprentice Tycoon I don't post in the diaries very much either for the same reason!!

I'm currently in hotels travelling with OH's work so can't do a lot of Old Style things daily, and hotels on the edge of industrial/commercial areas are nearly the same everywhere.

We did get away for the weekend though, they swapped us to a more Northern town, and we were in a lakeside hotel in a park on the edge of a city, so we could walk in the woods or walk into the town, where there was a market and they were smoking salmon on racks over metal troughs of burning logs.

I do use the time to research things for when a more 'normal' life resumes and we've got a house & garden again, but I don't think my diary entries would be that interesting either.

I'm back in the hotel next to the motorway now!!
  • Hi all,
Today is my day off and Ive got a day of housework planned. DD2 is off school with a sore throat and a tummy ache, she is currently watching a DVD and eating her breakfast very slowly because of her throat.
Had a very busy weekend, my weekly trip to Aldi, spot of housework and washing, DD1 needed wellies as she is going on a school trip which involves wading through streams etc so ended up buying both DD's wellies as the littleun loves them. (She is wearing hers now in fact, pink with the green cross code hedgehog all over)
I bought her some new slippers in the school holidays and in an effort to encourage her to wear them more I let her choose her favourites, which of course were the most expensive - ballet style from M+S, which I dont think she has worn since I bought them. I think I'll buy her wellies for the house in future, she might wear them then! ;)

Went for a chinese buffet yesterday lunchtime for MIL's birthday and DD's came home with a large bag full of Lego which used to belong to OH.

I'm taking the DD's to my moms later as its her birthday today, (Happy Birthday mom!) _party_
must collect some flowers on the way, (dropped her pressies in yesterday) and tea tonight is home made burgers which are defrosting in the fridge at the mo.

Have a good Old Style one!

Soup is in slow cooker and am going in to York later to buy cut price gift wrap and a few bits and pieces.

Got a compliment on my home made bread - DD aged 11 had spent Sat afternoon with new school friend and when she came home said that she had a sandwich but it was "Shop bread!"
    "This site is addictive!"

  • Morning all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALL MSEs

Had a wonderful weekend (started Friday) but did not do well OS style as it was my b-day Friday  . DD1 came home (lives away) and was taken out for a meal - it's lovely when we can all go out together. Got some georgeous sunflowers from both my OH and DD2 (neither of them knowing about the other!) and DD1 got a vase for me which was perfect to put them in!

Was whisked away for a weekend away by OH (totally unexpected) to Barrow in Furness - lovely hotel, lovely weekend ;)

But back to reality last night, did pile of ironing (couldn't leave it, it was mountainous :o ) and this morning before work, made very large pan of HM soup using hg onion from friends garden, whoopsie carrots, last of potatoes, swede, lentils and (hopefully-if I remember to buy suet) dumplings (but not for me)! So feel better about weekend! Taken ryvita and marmite for lunch + fruit for pud. Got to be good cos only 1 week to my summer hols!

Breaktime over so back to work. Hope you all have a good day :D

Spent the weekend at IL's up in the lake district. For some reason I've ended up with loads of washing as well even though I only did it ALL on Friday  Okay so I'm washing DD's summer quilt and a blanket but that still doesn't account for the other 3 loads (maybe even more!) which have appeared!

I ended up giving OH £50 (£30 was for a full tank of petrol though) of my housekeeping over the weekend (next time I'm not taking it!) and he's paid me back some of it already but he can pay me back the rest ASAP as I'm completely flumixed now as to where I am with money. Also went to Colony Candle factory in Lindal-in-Furness and spent £50 :o Some of that was on Sisters birthday pressie and also £24 was on 6 Xmas pressies plus everything nearly was on clearance as they are starting to stock out their Christmas stuff :D:j (I see another trip in November at this rate) so I'm not too worried ATM.

Need to get out this week and buy DD a PE kit - might actually go and have a look on ebay to be honest - can't seem to find blue shorts or white t-shirts anywhere! She's off to school with her packed lunch and thankfully she isn't the only one in her class not staying school dinners :D

BUT I got called in to see her teacher this morning. Apparently DD was assessed on her reading on Friday and, even though she is only in reception, she has a reading age of a YEAR 4 child  Which means she's about 3 or 4 years ahead of herself! BUT also on the other hand she hasn't got the comprehension to back that litracy age up and she's not very good with the social skills either :o The social skills I can understand because I'm not a very sociable person myself and she's not really been to play groups or anything like that so I think that's going to be something she needs to work on herself with her teachers and fellow pupils. I am, however, looking at comprehension stuff on the internet so we can work on that at home a bit but I am still realing from the information that was given to me!

Off to look on Ebay for PE kit and comprehension books

    morning all

horrible start today left dd at school in tears, _pale_ I think she was still tired from sat night (stayed at my mums) so we had a tantrum as she couldn't find her poncho and had to take her coat instead. feel really guilty now, but she can't expect the world can she.
baby was up half the night so I am shattered, poor little mite has had the snuffles for over a week.
stew is in the S/C and washing is hanging on the airer.
going to pop a loaf in the breadmaker, then off to breastfeeding support group (I am a supporter). After that a friend is popping over with her 2 littleuns.
Gonna try and go and get some blackberries later as I didn't get many yesturday, coz I really need to make some more jam :D

Spent most of yesterday digging a deep bed in the garden. Our soil is really stoney so carrots dont usually do well.OH made 2 spotted !!!!!! puddings and bought :mad:custard .As usual he doled out huge puddings to all wether they liked it or not.Why are men so greedy?Ofcourse nobody liked to say they didnt want any as they didnt want to hurt his feelings :D
Today my neighbour gave me some rhubarb plants for our garden :)
DS is thrilled as he loves rhubarb. He is off school today as they are having a teachers training day! (Wierd)
DD is over her cold now and has been working on history this morning.Last year we didnt do official lessons as she was learning autonomously but she thinks she might want to go to 6th form college next year and wants to get back into the habit of 'having' to work when it is school hours rather than whenever she feels the urge e.g.11pm
