I think this thread should be deleted or locked. It's now making those of us who were concerned or offering advice, look stupid.

It was certainly no joke when the thread started and I can assure you that I have a very good sense of humour.

It may look funny now, but it didn't at the start.

Completely agree. Context is now entirely different and arguably makes a mockery of those decent people who stepped in to offer help.

Dithering Dad, anyone that could even joke about killing themselves or their children is sick. You do not deserve to be a parent. Your children must be thoroughly ashamed of you.

Sorry if that seems harsh to anyone, but anyone that could even joke about killing their children is evil (or ill).

Hmnn, people had better make sure they don't say things like "tsk, I could have killed little Johnny when I saw he'd drawn all over his bedroom walls" or "I love kids, but I couldn't eat a whole one" within earshot of you - or they'll find themselves reported to the police for threatening murder and threatening canibalism.

Perhaps you should PM me, I'll supply my address and you can pass it onto social services? Clearly I'm a bad father and deserve to have them put into care and to be horsewhipped in front of my peers?

I truly am evil - I may perhaps even be the son of Satan himself?

You're exactly the sort of extreme reactionary that I'm going on about. When you're not calling people "Evil", you're telling them that the economy is doomed and that everything they have worked hard for is going to be lost.

I read three threads on this board today, one was by a poor soul who dared to ask "how can I buy 2 properties?" and was met with:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11601661&postcount=10

the other threads were about how western society is doomed and that we're all going to end up in council houses (if we're lucky) or 'death camps' (if we're not). How do people think this sort of doom-mongery affects people who are really worried about their families and their incomes? I wouldn't mind if the posters actually believed any of it, but obviously (especially in the case of the death camps and civil war brigade) they're just like making mischief, regardless of the impact on others.

p.s. the people who showed concern (and so must've missed the LCD reference and the "obviously these people are articulate and intelligent and so must be right" dig) have just been "shown up" as being caring and sympathetic and generally nice people - nothing to be ashamed of.

  • You know nothing about this client so how can you comment you heartless imbecile.

I have arranged over 2500 mortgages and have thousands of clients and I have lost a few of them through death. Only one has committed suicide to the best of my knowledge.

Helping the family to sort out affairs afterwards and not charging anything is just part of the job and a service most people would gladly do to ease the pressure from the widow/widower or family.

If you have nothing sane or decent to say, belt up.

Careful with the insults - I am certainly not an imbecile and you will do well to remember it.

My Uncle is a funeral director and he has a more realistic attitude than you do. Certainly a better sense of humour while maintaining dignity.

May I remind you that no one has actually died in the production of this post.

The same thing applies to you - the OP made a joke, it was clear it was a joke though some got a little confused, but the usual suspects climbed to the top of their respective ivory towers and started whining like a spin drier, so if you don't have something decent to say, then don't.

I really got quite frightened after reading the original thread where he was talking of killing himself and his family. I can't say I would want my OH to talk about us, his precious family, like that even in jest.
I suspect the OP feels a bit foolish hence the edit, and the latecomers suggesting that we caring early posters are overreacting.

Anyway, plasma tv or not, I couldn't be sure he wasn't joking as he could have been a dithering dad in a more evil way.

Carry on you mockers, I suspect people who thought this was funny, have no kids of their own.

Now if he'd said he was gonna smash up the plasma while the footie was on, there, that wouldn't be funny would it.:T :T

sorry - took the point that suicide may not be a lighthearted discussion. But after reading three threads back to back on this board that were laden with doom, gloom and death camps, the thoughts "Jesus Christ, people must feel like topping themselves after reading that lot". So I made the ratehr rash decision to vent a little.

I've changed the topic from suicide to canibalism, which as I'm sure you agree is a topic that lends itself to humour much more than suicide.

Thanks to those people who offered support - it was very touching. I didn;t realise that there were so many caring people on this board (the house price board) - perhaps the doom-mongers who dominate give a wrong impression?

Sorry for any offense caused, but by God it's a miserable board you have here!

goodness people take things seriously on here, i thought it was funny myself, but then im not a doom monger

And the post was phrased differently, it wasn't obvious it was a joke at all. On the first page, the original post is quoted about half way down if you want to read it.

The problem with the original post is that the OP assumed that all of us had read the threads he was opaquely alluding to. I had, and, therefore, knew it was a joke, but what made it so good was its subtlety.
Referring to disused aircraft hangers and the people (mainly SquatNow) who posted there as being articulate and intelligent was in itself the epitomy of a joke.

But the most obvious (which everyone should have seen) was the reference to the lost of his LCD widescreen. Deliberately placed so that there would not be any question that it was anything but a great plss take.

Everyone, please lighten up. Death will happen to all of us and, if it was a bad thing, then God would never have allowed it.

    Still think its funny.

NOTE: enjoying this as comedy doesn't mean one would find the real thing happening in real life funny. Hopefully one can distinguish between the real world and a joke.

Can I alter that JonnyBravo and say Hopefully one can distinguish between the real world and message board postings

Oh blimey... god forbid you should look silly.... I'm soooo glad that has NEVER happened to me... in my life....ever.... honest....
I don't mind. At least if I've made myself look stupid, it means I've had a head start on the others ...

Fair enough.... all that happened was you misinterpreted his post. No big deal and good on those who sought to give advice.... even if it was a little teensy eensy bit gullible of you.

    Maybe.
As for over-reacting. No, the over-reaction is from those decrying such a "heinous" post.

I didn't create the definition of an imbecile, this is the definition from dictionary.com

1.Psychology. a person of the second order in a former classification of mental retardation, above the level of idiocy, having a mental age of seven or eight years and an intelligence quotient of 25 to 50. 2.a dunce; blockhead; dolt. –adjective 3.mentally feeble. 4.showing mental feebleness or incapacity. 5.stupid; silly; absurd. 6.Archaic. weak or feeble.

    I just pointed it out!
