I have had a verruca on the ball of my foot for over ten years and nothing has shifted it, its just got bigger and multiplied.

My GP says they dont fund treatment for them any more, so after exausting the over the counter supplies of extra strength bazuka I spent over £150 at a chiropodist who applied 10 lots of strong salasilic acid, still did not budge!

I now just let it be, I alsmost see it as a birthmak now as ive had it so long, it even has a name (the 'emporer' -as it is large and majestic) I know thats sad!

I think as it is on a weightbearing part of my foot, it has been pushed deep into the skin , rather than 'on' the skin.

It can be quite uncomfortable to walk at times too.

This thread has given me the motivation to go on the offensive and try and get rid of it again, but what is duct tape? Is it medical? sounds like something my gran would use to stick her lino down with!

Indeed I think it IS something your gran would stick her lino down with! Available from all good DIY stores...

I've never heard about using duct tape, but it's very similar to what I used to do. I suffered with veruccas on both feet in the past and I used the sticky plaster you get on a roll. I cut strips off and put it on the soles of my feet and it worked! It was a trial and error thing I came up with as I thought if the verucca is covered up and not getting any air to them they'd die off. They did too. Just have to keep applying fresh plasters when the old ones stop sticking but it does work.

my little one had them from going swimming 3 times a week, and I tried everything, but her toes were so small the plasters kept coming off. In the end I clipped them off with toenail clippers as they stood proud from the toes and we've not seen them since - she said it didn't hurt and was quite happy for me to do it!

I've tried duct tape and it did nothing for mine. Also tried, tea tree oil, banana skin, over the counter gels, over the counter freezing, gp freezing, podiatrist (cost me £150 for all the appointments).

A friend recommended cuplex gel, so using that now, and it seems to be working. however, i've often heard that they go when they are ready, so maybe its just "time".

Could I just check with those of you who went to podiatrists/chiropodists that they used salycilic acid (sp) rather than freezing them with liquid nitrogen?

    Ta x

Salicilic acid at the chiropodists, they said they didnt tend to do freezing as it can burn surrounding skin, the only alternative they gave me was refferal for private day surgery, where they would cut it out under local anasthetic, which I declined!
Is freezing supposed to be better than salicilic acid?

I have no professional knowledge but based on the gels and pads I've used containing salicilic acid, it just killed all the skin around the outside of the verrucas without actually getting rid. I found it painful to walk on them then. I've had some much better results with freezing (at my GP when they used to offer it).

Duct tape works, but give it time , and remember to use a pummice stone to take the top layer off once a week.
