well after a weekend of contemplation I have picked out the crafty bits I want to do - and think I have time for! My first scarf is excellent (so much so I may have to keep it for myself!) although the hat is a bit big - will have to follow the biggest childs size rather than the adult size I think for future ones!!! Can't find the camera so will post a pic later when it turns up.

I'm looking for some christmas fabric - or even red and white gigham or soemthing for a noel sign. Ebay here I come....

Also have to make a blind for the new nursery - not a christmas project but would like it done sooner rather than later (i.e. before baby arrives) :D

You all sound so busy. I better get on .....

Thanks ice hockey fan, poster paints sound like a good idea as it's the inside of a glass bottle I need to do so it won't need waterproofing and if that doesn't work I'll see if I can find a starter kit suggested by crazy chatter.

Thanks for the luck Maria & the imps I'll need it as I'm going to try and make a 3 Wishes Genie Bottle. Seen them in a shop but never attempted anything like this before - I'm more a cake maker and decorator. I used to do Christmas cakes for the family but my Uncle (who started this and then stopped because it was too much to do) has metioned to my mum he wants to start doing these again which means as the dutiful neice I have to find other things to make on the cheap.
  • Mrs Love, what is a 3Wishes Genie Bottle? sounds intriguing!!

I made five reindeers and a sweetie wreath last night! bizarrely my first reindeer is the best of them all!
I also throught of a new idea, I'v got lots of lollypops and thought of make some little cardboard trees, and poking the loolies through so that they look like baubles! will try to take a pic this evening to show you what I mean.
  • Last year we had a "home-made" Christmas, and for the first time ever the pile of presents my children got increased in size after they unwrapped everything! (I had made some cushion covers and then put in the cushion pads when they were opened, as I was too short of paper to wrap up the completed ones - all 5 of them)

My children loved it and the toys I had sewn are still their favourites. This year I asked them if it was OK to do the same this year as we're saving up to emigrate, and was surprised to have them both cheer!

Home-made gifts aren't just to replace shop bought stuff. The love and time you put into each gift is pricless. It is time more people did this not just for financial reasons, but to bring back the spirit of Christmas.

I've gathered tons of dressmaking patterns over the years and all the big pattern companies have a craft section. I've taken advantage of times when patterns are on special offers and also when pattern offers appear in magazines like sewing world which has a pattern suppliment every 3 months with patterns costing just £2.95 including p&p in the UK. My son isn't a standard age 12 size and so I'm starting to make his clothes, especially trousers - he's a size 8 waist and hips but a 12 length, and he can't wait to get his second pair of trousers made by Mum.

I make no promises that making stuff yourself is the easy option - 'cause it isn't. You need to get organised and pace yourself. Also I've already primed my kids that I probably won't get everything made in time for Christmas and so I'll be printing pictures of what I want to make for them later with instructions like I want them to choose the fabric or the style of the outfit and then it's personal for them. They have both said that they would love this idea too!

Good luck to everyone who wants a homespun Christmas

siren - belated happy birthday:j You kept that a bit quiet............lol
Hope it was a good one.

rainmac - I'm stick hacking away - think I might go back to the doctors and get some different antibiotics..............horrible nights sleep last night - mind you OH was back and I've had the bed to myself for a few days..............lol
Least I feel better in myself than I did a week ago so thats something I suppose.

sheyo - go for it and do a journal for your lad. I'm doing one for our oldest foster lad here - not dwelling on the past to much but more questions about how he sees himself now and in ten years time, that sort of thing. Might make him sit back and think a bit

Thanks everyone for wishing me happy birthday! I had a great day thanks although it felt strange not seeing my family (we were stuck down here due to work). However we are going up to see them all on Saturday and are staying til Wednesday (so I won't get on here much or get much crafting done) We are all going out for a meal to celebrate on Sunday night which I'm really looking forward to!

As for the crafting things are progressing. I made 6 reindeer yesterday and was going to do some photos when my OH got home form work but I feel asleep on the sofa! Just shows how old I'm getting hehe (I turned 21!!)

    siren - turned 21 ??? Oh you lucky thing........................:j How I wish....................

Done little 'safe keeping; jar for one of my sons -only a small one in a plastic tub so will post ok. Now on the hunt for some sort of kitchen type label. It's full of some sort of dried beans...........lol

Jobs to do: 2 reindeer heads to finish off - two door hangers to add ribbon and embelishments to, finish off sons 'survival kit' (when OH comes back from getting me some string) and then, apart from filling up various things with sweets (retro sweet box, joke pill bottles etc.) I'll be done :T :T :T :T :T

(I think................have I forgotten anything ? Oh, few bits for grandsons christmas eve box...............lol New there would be something)

Really must start wrapping some of this stuff up.

Mary turning 21 isn't all its cracked up to be hehe although my OH teases me all the time saying how I'm a 65 year old trapped in a 21 year old's body as instead of doing what most 21 year olds do (partying all night and falling out of clubs blind drunk) I'd rather be tucked up at home with a blanket doing some cross stitching or some other crafts with a nice brew!

Mary I'm jealous wish I was nearly done. I still have a stack of cross stitching projects to finish. Just waiting for pay day so I can spurge and buy up all the threads I need!
