  • I'm sorry if this has been discussed before but has anyone been thinking of making their own crackers? My Dad made some for a few years with a kit and the yellow 'capsules' from Kinder eggs inside. It was really nice making them and I am sure that if you did individual ones and labelled them they would be a great surprise for everyone at the table after all the presents have been opened...

  • Sian, that sounds like a great idea, could be a little extra added to a hamper or put on the tree too! Ok, can anyone let me know where the cheapest DIY cracker set is to be found?....

With this one i used toffees (cause of the festive colours and the fact they were cheap from the co-op lol)

Its suprisingly easy but a wee bit fiddly. I followed the instructions from this video:

Hi - great idea, one question though she skipped from tying 1 sweet to having a whole handful, now do you tie 1 sweet per 1 string and tie each one onto the wire or do you join them all before tying onto the wire. I might be missing something here so would be grateful for anyone who wants to explain!!!!!

    Thanks

Basically, tie the string in a 'half knot' around the 'tail' of the sweet, then tie it onto the frame in a knot so that when you are half way through tying the knot the sweet moves towards the frame...

I hope that makes sense? You do that for each individual sweet, stopping every 10 sweets or so to 'bunch' them together.

Be warned though that some will fall off as you're trying to tie them, thats just one of those annoying things lol and you have to just persevere, you'll eventually get into a rhythm.

    HTH x

ps, its 1 sweet per 1 piece of string

I'm doing ok, well I think I am ;) Had a bit of a panic moment last week thinking I'm never going to finish everything I've started/want to do but I've made some inroads over the last couple of weeks and am pleased with my progress. I also have a sort of to do list and am trying to keep that updated - crossing things off is motivating me to carry on!

Hoping to get my 6 pots of gold and 3 balls of life made tomorrow :D

I'm so enjoying making bits and bobs.
