Here on Old Style we treat each other with respect and dignity, and I felt it would be the right thing to do to offer an Old Style gesture of support for Martin during these difficult times.
So if like me, you appreciate the true meaning of all the work Martin, and the Moneysaving team do then please add your messages here.
I am still learning so much from this Forum,
Thank you and best wishes everyone,
Greenshield

:T I am happy to second that, Greenshield.
Thanks for all your help, Martin. I too have learned a lot from you and many of the contributors on here.Weight loss - here we go again - watch this space!

:T What a lovely idea!
I have been worrying about Martin, this wasn't his fault and I feel that the C4 prog went too far and was very unfair. So an old style (((((Hug)))) going out to Martin with many thanks for all the moneysaving advice I have benefitted from, only debt now is the mortgage and as you can see from my signature even that is shrinking! Thanks to everyone here I also feel better able to weather whatever is around that corner. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

When we first stumbled across this site we were literally on our knees...saddled with debts we couldn't afford to pay and the future was looking very bleak.
We have been in debt all our married life I'm ashamed to say but thanks to this site we have turned our lives around and the lives of our kids as a result.
I for one can never thank Martin, this site and all its wonderful contributors enough0 -
I, for one, will never watch Channel 4 again. I don't have a television, but that's not the point.
I have both an IceSave account, albeit with only £1.41 in it simply because it wasn't paying the best interest, and a Kaupthing Edge account, with £4.5K in it, which is now as safe & sound as any account can be in these "interesting times" in The Netherlands.
My current account pays about £5 per month in interest, I get 4% cashback on my credit card and I am currently taking NatWest for their free £50.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Am being a bit slow on the uptake here but what have Channel 4 done to Martin?0

Channel 4 have practically called him a thief and a con artist!"This site is addictive!"

Same here, D&DD. We turned things around two years ago mostly through what we learned from MSE, and like catznine the only debt we now have is the mortgage which we're doing all we can to reduce. Without this site, it would have taken us a lot longer to get out of the mess. As I said on another thread a few nights ago, I was horrified by the hostility I saw on another MSE forum the other night, and the culture of needing someone to blame we seem to have.
MSE has changed our lives in so many ways, and money saving has become not just a matter of expediency but a way of living and a value system (that's why i like to hang around here with the OSers).
Earlier, DS1 (age 11) asked what I was doing on the 'omputer, and I said looking at Weezl's recipes, and he said "Can't you get some ideas for saving money from that Saint Martin's website, or whatever he's called?" :money:
So i guess Martin is held in very high regard in this house! Lol.

This is my favourite forum, because eveyone is so friendly and helpful. I've never read a nasty comment or even a shirty one!
I've become much more aware of where my money goes since using this site and I have budgeted more more effectively.

I hadn't seen the Jon Snow interview until I stumbled across this thread and went to find it before giving my opinion. Such an aggressive and ill-researched interview should never have seen the light of day. It is a poor interviewer who has to interrupt their guest constantly to prevent them from presenting their case fairly.
I would like to offer my support and heartfelt thanks to Martin for the hundreds of thousands of us he has helped with his unbiased and well researched advice and for supporting a community such as this. Where else could you find free information, on such a broad range of topics with the common goal of saving money and helping people in desperate situations to take control of their life.
Thankyou :T0 -
I have been very grateful that this site exists. I have saved literally hundreds of pounds over the years. I've had lots of tips and help with the problems that life throws up, not just monetary.
Financial advice is always difficult, and we have all seen the small print and disclaimers....ultimately its our money, our choices, our risk....and no one could have predicted the meltdown in Iceland's economy. Look at all those councils who invested too...did they get their advice here? I think not.x x x0
