An Old Style gesture of support for Martin

I too add my support - I am still learning from this site and have some way to go but I find everything is very well researched.
There are always those people who just jump on the good bits (high interest rates etc) and forget to take notice of the warnings (only £35000 per bank) then want to blame someone else when it all goes wrong.
The people who do the best in life are those willing to admit their mistakes and learn from them - this site helps us do that
Keep up the good work!!0 -
Haven't watched the interview, don't plan to. Martin and the team, it's as you can see a minority who don't appreciate the information you provide us with FREE to make decisions about our finances with. I've saved money thanks to your tips/hints and those of members of the forum. It's not your fault people made bad decisions or had bad luck based on the research you gave them, noone ever made them do anything.
Personally I think many have had it too easy too long and taken it for granted that investments just go up. Well some who are unrealistic have come down with a bump! It's shaken friends of mine who've made comments that I am too thrifty (tight as a kippers **** and proud of it) etc to be a bit more careful with their money. I'm amazed as instead of saying 'why don't you just buy that' they're asking 'how do you make that' a bit more, asking how I shop etc. Reality is they've all just spent too much for too long and are a little scared now.
In a way, it's maybe a good thing that some things have happened, because it's amazing to see the support which can be given between people when times are hard. People using their cars less at the moment is in some ways wonderful as I've met people I have never spoken to before in the village because they usually leave the door, get in the car, go out, come home in the car, go in the house. I hope that part stays, neighbours making an effort to speak to each other and people actually walking their kids to school more!
I am always warmed on the inside when I read the support passed between people on this forum. I know we owe a lot to Martin and the team for starting it and running it, but the members have made it x (and we'll just ignore the ignorant/abusive/rude ones)
One day I might be more organised...........

Dear Martin,
I was recently unfortunate enough to have lost half an hour of my life to C4 News and an interview conducted by Jon Snow who i my opinion is a pompuous self centred small minded man who given his profession should be able to conduct an interview/conversation in a level headed way! Sadly this was not the case and the man is an A$$!
Personally I think you are absolutely fabulous, and I can only imagine how, to you, someone who cares so deeply about the people you advise and their situations, has been made to feel by the aforementtioned.
You know in yourself that the advice you gave was good advice, you cannot control what parts people listen to, but just hope that people listen and understand the whole.
Jon 'A$$' Snow was looking to string you up and make an scapegoat for the economies problems out of you, but he succeeded solely in making himself look totally incompetent, lacking in information, narrow minded and just an A$$!!!!!
God love you Martin, you've saved so many from their darkest moments and I for one will continue to follow your exceptional advice on my path to debt freedom!
Yours truly

Why are we worried about Martin? I read the first post but it didn't say.
Is he bankrupt or sick or something?
I'll forgive him anything if he will take up the cause of the ripped off sodastream customers. Who now own an expensive piece of junk.

I am disgusted with C4.
Hugs to martin, this site has saved my relationship, my sanity and on many occasions our home.0 -
I am disgusted that Channel 4 are looking to blame Martin for the country's economic problems! He has always made clear that it is important to make sure you are protected when investing, etc. I haven't watched the interview but from what other people have said it obviously wasn't very well researched.
IMO a lot of the blame for the current crisis can be laid at the feet of the media for causing panic!
Sorry this isn't very coherent, brain isn't working very well today, but Martin you have helped me and my family immensely and I don't know what I'd do without the site. ((((HUGS))))0 -
I didn't watch the programme and don't intend to.
I DO want to add my support for MSE though as it is now part of my life.
I have saved so much money since coming on here, I am now debt-free:j (apart from my mortgage  ) my shopping bills are drastically reduced and I have made lots of new friends
Keep it up Martin :T :T :T0 -
I haven't watched the interview but I listen to Martin on Jeremy Vine's programme on Radio 2 and while he had frequently mentioned Kaupthing it was Martin who I first heard explain the £35,000 protection limit on savings and this was something he frequently did.
To have a go at him for being irresponsible is very unfair IMO when in reality its the Icelandic government who have been irresponsible and downright liars.0 -
I just wanted to add that this thread wasn't started as a criticism of Channel 4 and I wouldn't want it to be seen as such.
It was as much to do with the negativity which was directed at Martin throughout the MSE site, much of which was very nasty and uncalled for, especially as so many people get help from MSE.
It just felt right to say that I didn't agree with it, and that I believe in saying thank you when someone has helped me.
In my view, (and it is shared by most people on Old Style), it costs nothing to be nice to others. (a Freebie we can all benefit from!)

Martin and this website have been nothing but help to me. Especially over the past few months where things have become harder.
I've just watched the link and channel 4 are useless, they couldn't even get the website name correct!!
So stand tall Martin we're behind you 100%In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.0
