An Old Style gesture of support for Martin

Another thank you for the help I have received via this site - I reckon I've saved hundreds of £s and made some good virtual friends.
There is a lot of the "blame game" going at the moment - people are looking for heads to roll - and who can gainsay them that. But Martin's isnt of the heads due for the "chopping board". By and large we get good financial advice from this site.
What also has to be borne in mind in any context is common sense. Whenever we look at anything financial we have to use common sense. I've not got any savings to concern myself with at present anyways - but, because I will be starting in on getting some together shortly I have been sussing out where to put them. I had rejected Icelandic Banks a few months ago - decided it sounded too good to be true and Iceland is only a tiny country to be trying to do so much and without that much to fall back on as regards natural resources - I'm far from being a financial expert - but I added those facts up and thought "no thanks - I'll keep looking. For right now - I'll spend to save - ie buy everything I could possibly need for the rest of my life to try and be as self-sufficient as one can be in a tiny urban house". Well....and the tiny little factor that I tend to operate on the rule that unless the country you live in and can claim citizenship of is heading totally down the swanee - then always have any financial institution one has dealings with near enough to go and sit outside their offices with a placard and a friendly reporter if need be <wink>.
So - always, always, always think for yourself and use commonsense - no matter what anyone else says.
But - I repeat - the advice on this Board has been good. The only thing I have noted about it is it goes far further into grabbing everything possible going than I agree with doing. But the advice - on a financial level only - is basically sound.0 -
love the site Martin, i too have learned a lot from it0

Just watched part of the interview, i was disgusted with Jon Snow and turned it off half way through as it was painful to watch poor Martin have to defend himself like that. Martin is a moneysaving expert not a mindreader with a crystal ball! I, like thousands more wish i had found this website sooner as the advice and support is second to none. I have saved loads since joining and am very greatful to Martin and his team for their hard work aswell as to everyone who takes the time to post.
Martin is such a genuine guy and anyone who cannot see that must be blind.
Please keep doing what you are doing Martin, we would be lost without you babes XXMay GC Budget £200 spent

Just watched the C4 interview. I think Martin put his points across really well considering he was interupted everytime he tried to speak!
This interview confirms to me that Martin is still the best financial advisor around. You can tell he loves what he does and WE ALL LOVE WHAT HE DOES TOO.
Millions and millions of people benefit from his advice (not just on here but through word of mouth too). I wouldn't hesitate to take his advice again and again.
I can only say 'thanks Martin' we all think you are great!

Martins site has shown me (self taught internet user) how to make use of the power of the internet,in a way I didn't understand before I used mse.I doubt there could be any other site that is so effective in doing this. Thanks Martin very, very much appreciated.x0

I didn`t see this programme but I think it is disgraceful that Martin has been picked on/set up/belittled etc. I can honestly say that I have thought for a long time that Martin deserved some government recognition for all the help and astute advice he has given to people in this country, but I have also felt that he is unlikely to get it because people in the banking industry for one, won`t like the way he has helped people to get their money back when they have been unfairly charged.
I will not watch C4 again, and I will write to tell them why.
Please don`t let the ******** get you down Martin, I feel that you are just about the only one who champions the ordinary people in this country, who explains things clearly, and who has helped so many of us to reduce our debts at the same time as helping us to become thriftier and better able to manage our lives.
Long live Martin Lewis and all the wonderful people on MSE.The more I see of men, the more I love dogs - Madame de Sevigne0 -
I think people are looking for someone to blame other than take responsibility for themselves. I think the more sensible among us realise that what Martin gives is just advice. We don't have to take it!
I love this sight. It has helped me so much. Yes, I am still in debt and yes, I do still struggle but I can now see a light at the end of that long dark tunnel which I couldn't before.
Martin is not to blame for the credit crunch and could not possibly know that all this was going to happen. He is just a clever, credit savvy man who is trying to help people and he gets slated for it!
IGNORE THEM MARTIN! WE LOVE YOU:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -
I also want to add my thanks and support for our Martin :money: :money:
Like others have said, people want someone to blame when things go pearshaped and especially since there is so much money involved. Martin has done everything right, he warned people, gave good advice.
Poor bloke, getting attacked like that, well your "family" still loves you Martin and can see the whole picture :grouphug:0 -
My family have so much to be grateful for as without this site we probably would have lost our home by now.
The help is immeasurable and continues on a daily basis - I can actually breathe again and not lie awake trembling at night. We feel enpowered now, not hopeless and have self respect back again.
The beauty of it is that my teenage sons now turn to this site when making their decisions for advice - if only I'd been that lucky when I was their age!
I can't thank Martin, his team and all you users enough.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Martin has ALWAYS said that people should ensure that they are safe.
Martin certainly had no influence on the Councils, charities and other organisations/extremely wealthy people who put many millions of pounds in these banks.
I haven't watched the programme. I can't stand Jon Snow at any price.
I would guess that he has not read the site thoroughly, but has gone on what he has been told - and I bet the researcher's didn't read the site either.
Channel 4 was touting for people who had lost money in Iceland on a thread on the savings board.
People who have not been careful, not followed Martin's advice to protect themselves, are looking for someone to blame and they have decided to blame Martin. He has always made it clear that some banks were not totally covered by UK protection AND by how much.
It is the same old song - someone else must be responsible for my misfortune - it can't have been me! It makes me so mad!
Martin - you have my support and that of dh. We are very grateful for all the advice you have given us. Thanks to your advice we are about £30,000 better off than we would have been had we not followed the money makeover advice and discovered your website and the wonderful forums - especially Old Style.
Thank you. :T0
