Martin sends his e-mails to 2.5 million people, whilst C4 news has a paltry 800,000 viewers! :rotfl:

I think you just hit the nail on the head!

Actually, when I first saw the thread title "OS gesture of support for Martin", I thought for a second that someome was suggesting baking him a cake or something.

    Would a C4 news presenter's head fit in a slow cooker? :D

I find it sooooo ridiculous that anyone is trying to blame Martin. He gives impartial advice to millions of people and provides a forum for those millions to help each other.

I would suggest that the imbecile Jon Snow, whoever he is, does some serious research of the topic he is due to discuss and also takes a look at the professional life of the interviewee before he starts bad-mouthing them.

He just might learn something we've all known for a long time!

Many, many of us are indebted to you for your dedication to us, the general public.

    Keep it up ;)

:hello: I'd like to add my support for Martin too.

It's great to see so many positive and supportive comments. We care about you Martin.;)

  • I totally agree with everything that has been said. It is ridiculous to blame one person for ANYTHING as big as this, and to blame someone like Martin who has spent all his time trying to help us all, is beyond the pale.

I just hope Martin ignores all the stupidity - even, sadly on some of the money boards here - and realises that 99% of us are still right behind him, gratefully taking his advice to help improve our lives.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

My vote for Martin too. We read advice and decide what actions to take. I have no faith whatsoever in TV documentaries, I think it is just reporters trying to get their names in lights with headlines regardless of the facts. I know I had some stick at work when Trevor McDonald did one on health care in Spain where I had a place (a little green eyed monster creeping in), a guy who had ignored the advice available on when and what is covered, decided to keep his money and risk it, moaning he had to pay for services because he was not retirement age and had lived in Spain for over 2 years. The TM then showed a tiny clinic 2 hours away, when a brand new state of the art Spainish NH hospital had opened in the town where the guy lived due to the growth in population of the ex-pats, mainly over pension age getting free health care - faster and IMHO better than the UK.

I followed Martin's advice and ensured any savings did not break the limits guaranteed, I also switch my gas/electric last March with a £75 quidsco cashback and capped until 2011, mentioned in the weekly newsletter. I decided not to chase the very top interest rates, I did not feel comfortable when I read Martin's article on the guarantees, my choice.

Martin is successful, and I think that is any excuse to attack for these reporters. Even the C4 site has put on ability to comment and all but one flippant comment was against JS.

People who think they have lost their savings will be upset, I would have been but who was it who moved it, signed the papers, etc., themselves.

Matrin has made me much more financially aware and has given me the courage to do things (like phoning up my insurance company and getting £250 of this year's insurance) that I would not have done before. He has inspired many many people over the years. Many thanks.
