Martin, a huge thank you for all the effort & thought put into this whole website, from you & all the MSE staff & volunteers.

The information & advice has helped me and my extended family & friends enormously and I like to think that in my own small way I have passed my own help on to others via the forums.

    Thank you.

I haven't (and now do not intendto )watch the C4 clip, nor do I leave the Old Style site much (I'm such a fraidy cat, but I've heard things...) but if anyone, anyone out there is having a go at our precious Martin...( shaky fist smiley) well, its just not on.

I found that this site is written very well, hell I understand it so it must be written in a how to for dummies manner, coz I don't do complicated, and everywhere I have read any articles, I've always read information on protecting myself and how ins and outs work. But even I, and I'm a financial numpty, would not take one persons view on something as big as MY finances and would look around for more info (by which I mean, go ask my dad coz he's an accountant, and what he can't tell me he can point me in the right direction) and if it all goes t*ts up (and it has before now) it was MY choice, MINE AND MINE alone, so who else is there to blame......grrrrrr.

It's really stressful when people try to be so unfair coz they don't want to see things in a clear light.

WE LOVE YOU MARTIN:money: , NOW AND FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dear Martin :grouphug:

I wanted to add my support to this thread. Thanks to you & MSE I have, in the last year:

    Taken control of my debts
    Hammered down my mobile contract
Swapped and capped my fuel bills
    Reduced my car insurance
Reduced my buildings & contents insurance
Set up & maintain a full budget planner
Save (or try to) for regular expenses, such as car servicing, holidays, etc (if we don't have enough money, we don't have holiday - not this year - busy saving for next year!!!)
Drastically reduced my food bill - down by 50% (with more to save!)
    Shop with a list
    Menu plan
    Cook from scratch
    Use my slow cooker

If I had savings (maybe one day) I would have invested my money by investigating all the best deals, checking the protection offered, and making the decision myself (knowledge is power).

Thank you Martin. My life has changed for the better since I discovered you and MSE. I started in the Living With Bankruptcy forum, discovered there is hope and am now coping & starting to enjoy the challenge of life again. My home is now Old Style.

I need to change my name ....... tiredanddesperate doesn't fit anymore:T
    All the best

Yes, I'm juggling and I might drop some.... but at least I'm trying ;)

  • If people would take responsibility for their own actions then perhaps the country would not be in the state that it is today. Both my DH and I have (or had!) this year's ISA with Icesave. I read about it both here and in the press - but the decision was mine (poor DH didn't have any say, so he would be right in blaming me). I too would like to add my thanks for all the information and tips I have gleaned from this site (and particularly the old-stylers) over the last few years.
  • I too add my support to Martin and his team. We have saved so much by following advice from this site and for the first time in our lives actually have savings.

    Thanks very much:T:T:T

  • Hi Again Guys!

I have only just watched the interview and TBH I dont think it was that bad and didnt make Martin look bad. If anything, it pointed out that anyone who had savings of more than 35k/50k in one bank had been warned repeatedly to spread their savings out and it's their own fault if they had done otherwise.

Yes, the interviewer was argumentative (sp) but thats his job and Martin held his own and was consistent throughout with his valuable advice as always.

Keep up the good work Martin!

Just wanted to add in my support for Martin, the site and all he has done to enable the consumer to take back some power from the companies. What we are offered here is advice, simple as. It is then your decision what you do. I have saved lots of money through this site, especially the forums, as its enabled me to ask questions of more experienced people and then use their advice to my best advantage.

Martin, keep up the good work and go have a cup of tea and some of Twinks hobnobs-they would make anyone smile.

Not watched the interview and I don't depart much from the OS boards these days, so I'm not qualified to comment on the interview or others specific comments. But I'd like to say a big thanks to Martin and all the contributors here.

Is there really anyone who uses MSE who hasn't saved themselves money, cos I really really doubt it. It has saved me so much money and time, and OS helps keep me sane, it's lovely to know that there are others out there like me!

No one person is responsible for the credit crunch or banks failing, but only we are responsible for our own financial decisions. Martin makes recommendations and offers information, if people wanted professional advice and personalised recommendations then they should have gone to visit a few financial bods and paid for it, then they could moan if it turned out to be inappropriate.

I am a grown up and make my own decisions, which means that I also have to accept responsibility for them.

Since finding mse I have saved thousands of pounds, I have improved my os ways immeasurably, I have found all sorts of deals and bargains on so many things, I have saved money on repairs on everything from my washing machine to my computer, a damaged ceiling and broken window, and I have met some genuinely lovely, funny and supportive people - okay some of them are a bit mad, but that's why I love em!

    So once again, thanks Martin!

  • I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of thanks to Martin, I hope he can take 5 minutes out of saving the world to read this thread.

I haven't watched the video as I couldn't get it to start properly, but as it no longer seems necessary to do any research or present a balanced viewpoint I'll make my point anyway :)

I think Martin and his team can hold their heads up high over this, they offer free impartial advice, it is always balanced and not laced with hysteria or jumping on this bandwagon or the next. As he pointed out he spelt out the dangers of icesave etc way before others. And who saw this spectacular a collapse coming to the whole banking system?

Thanks again Martin, I hope you aren't feeling too emotional about it anymore. Keep up the great work.
