    What have you found so far?

    Without splitting, a quick glance at EastCoastTrains shows a return trip for £175.00. Can be as low as £164.50 if you don't mind afternoon travel on the way out.

    Dep Sheffield 10:27, arr Farnborough Main 14:13. Advance Single = £87.50.
    Dep Farnborough M 07:38, arr Sheffield 12:47. Advance Single = £87.50.

    That price will reduce to £108.50 with a Family and Friends Railcard.
    So definitely get a F&F Railcard.

    Those fares are total for all four of you.

    There are deals around for the railcard.
  • Hi

    I'm planning a trip from Ipswich to Mansfield on August 28, and have been quoted £56.70 for an Off Peak Day Return, travelling via Ely & Nottingham (although one route did highlight a route via Norwich - catching the Ely train earlier).

    I've looked around the net to find a better deal, but haven't found anything as of yet. Is there something that I'm missing, perhaps?

    Just did a routine check of Megatrains' site, and found that (apart from a new buggy layout) you can now book way past their usual 1.5 months ahead - they're showing train tickets right up to January next year! (maybe later, I gave up after that).

    Just had another look, you can book to at least 2013! Makes no sense, surely they can't possibly know what the timetables will be then?

    I've emailed them (though they never replied to my last query) - if it's a bug on the site, wonder how they'll deal with tickets already sold ...

    Try splitting at Nottingham - it looks as though advance singles are available Ipswich Nottingham at £11 each way on some trains. Then a fiver for a cheap day return to Mansfield

    You probably already know the train season ticket prices...

    Week = £55.50
    Month = £213.20
    Year = £2220.00
