Half a cup of Jumbo oats, cup of boiling water, cook very low while you go for a 30 minute walk (yes you should make time for that before breakfast, it gets your metabolism going) When you get home put on the kettle for a cup of tea, add a small amount of salt to the porridge and stir well, eat with a little semi-skimmed milk and a generous teaspoon of molasses.

I make mine with skimmed milk in the Microwave - 2 1/2 minutes and bobs your uncle :) then sprinkle with a little sugar :) To be honest I also like eating the oats uncooked as we used to in Denmark when I was little :) just oats with milk and sugar sprinkled on top yummy!

i use 40g of oats (usually just the shops own brand, unless there's a special offer) and UHT skimmed milk.

the best tip i was ever given was to use a large bowl to cook it in in the microwave (i use a mixing bowl!) as it will stop it boiling over!!

i also peel and chop quite finely an eating apple and cook it in with the porridge, sweetens it, bulks it out and its one of your 5 a day :) when availible i use windfalls my friend gives me!

Me and my sons love to eat oats raw too, again with molasses - lovely snack at suppertime!
  • Please please please someone convince me that porridge is nice to eat!! My husband has it every morning made with water and ground nuts and seeds on - very healthy but it makes me want to puke just the sight of it. I would love to love porridge but just the thought of eating his wallpaper paste in a bowl makes me go green.

Any yummy porridge receipes welcomed :T Convince me it's nice :rotfl:

I love porridge. I make it with water but stir in some milk, lovely warming and creamy.

I make mine with half milk, half apple juice, a good tablespoon of sultanas and about 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. I don't need to add any extra sugar/honey as I find it sweet enough with the apple juice.

I love porridge and have it every day in the winter, but I find it goes Gloopy if cooked too long... I just cook it with half and half water and skimmed milk and cook for no more than 2 or 3 mins... then stir in some milk and a teaspoon of brown sugar... it really fills you up and it is sooooooooo good for you especially if you have cholesterol probs.......

  • When I have porridge I make it with milk & a dash of double cream at the end oh & a teaspoon of sugar, I never time it I just stop cooking when it looks like wet cement.

    I like Ready-Brek....but I'm always disappointed when I don't get that 'glow'

I don't have a microwave, so I just heat water & milk in a pan and then stir in the readybrek, let it cook for a couple of minutes to thicken...yum.
