This thread lay dormant from the middle of May till now. It's only August and we're already cold enough to be getting out the porridge oats.
Still, you can't beat it!
& during my pregnancies, I craved it & had it for breakfast, lunch & tea0 -
hey there!
Although I do like porridge, for both its cheapness and its ability to keep you warm for an entire morning, its getting boring
I just have it plain...milk and oats.
what do you use to make it less repetitive...less like a bowl of porridge and more like tasty fun in a bowl?
any ideas welcome...thank you!One thing...that sets pulses racing...that gets hearts pounding...for which there is no substitute...only YOU can provide...blood.

I don't think I could ever be bored with porridge - however I make it the way my Mum taught me (she was scottish) and it tastes quite different to alot of other people's porridge. I use a cup of rolled oats and a cup of milk and a cup of water, plus a good pinch of salt. The salt is crucial - it tastes so different without it, but it doesn't taste salty with it for some reason. Then I bring it to the boil and simmer for a good 5 minutes and then I leave it to stand for another 5. I serve it in one of the following ways:
With golden syrup and a little evaporated milk
just plain with sugar
with chopped eating apple and cinnamon sugar (just sugar mixed with a little cinnamon)
with honey and walnuts with a little single cream, top of the milk or evap
with brown sugar, a tot of whiskey and a little cream ( only on very special occasions)Jane

I had it this morning and I find a bit of sugar works well"Well, we are a Christian country, it is an important part of our make-up and I don't see any reason to change." David Cameron0

I add bananas, or raisins, sometimes prunes, you can add just about anything, but i always find adding fruit means i stay healthy too.
Or sometimes i make my own museli with the oats, add dried fruits that i like, hazek nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seads a bit of milk, lovely even my kids will eat this but not the shop bought stuff.0 -
