Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

  • Another problem I had with the hot porridge was that I'm often running late in the morning and would keep burning my mouth in an effort to wolf it down and get out the door on time! !!!!!!

  • Whilst my dad was in hospital before Christmas, he had it with Orange juice - he didn't like it before but loved it with this.

I just can't bear the thought of putting it in my mouth, the thought of it freaks me out - still I don't have time to make it in a morning before I leave so it doesn't really matter!

I've just added these posts onto the end of our main long running thread on porridge. Posts are normally listed in date order so you may have to read from the begiining to pick up other ideas :)

This does sound good, but I thought porridge meant it was cooked. Is this just my calvinist, Scottish upbringing?!
You are right - porridge is cooked oats, the Jamie Oliver pukkola recipe is muesli. If you bake the oats with a sweetener and some oil it becomes granola.

Oats are so versatile and so good for you and so cheap :D

I was never much of a fan until I started making it this way about 3 weeks ago and now I crave the stuff :p :

cup of 0% greek yoghurt or low fat natural yoghurt
    1/2 teaspoon sweetener
cup of oats (I use Jordan's Organic)
diced fresh apple or pear or any other fruit lying around such as banana

Mix all together and eat straight away - it is absolutely fantastic and fills me up until lunchtime

I have got to start eating porridge. We used to have it at home when I was very small, and at school later on; school never served it the way it should be though. Mum would put a spoon of golden syrup in the bowl, then pour hot porrige over to melt it in - yum! School did have big bowls of demarera sugar though, and cream too, if I'm not mistaken.

I tried it again recently, but I can't get it down, it's as bad as milky cereals :( Makes my stomach go ick. I can't even manage it without milk - just water and oats! Stupid tum. Will persevere. It's good for me!

I had my back tooth extracted and made it in the pan, more moist and it was fab.

Half water and half milk, maple syrup you get for ice cream and I like single cream to top.

    Sheer bliss

I have a bowl of porridge oats every morning.. but I don't like it cooked! Last time I tried to cook it in the microwave it went too dry.. didnt do mixture right or something! I prefer it just oats and cold milk and it's is fine. All housemates think it's strange to eat it like that tho. I think it's yummy tho! :D
