Beauty product - Put porriage in a sock/tights and put & leave in to your running bath to condition your skin. Add it to a smoothy to eat or add it to the smoothy to put on your face as a face mask. Also then add egg to make a hair conditioner.

  • Just noticed this thread whilst I'm sitting here munching on a bowl of porridge! lol

DS and I like ours with semi-skilled milk (I buy the small cartons of Long Life for it, so that we don't decimate the fresh milk supplies) and we add a spoonful of linseed to the mix. Great for the skin! Topped off with a teaspoon of honey, its delish. :)
:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:

But use fresh porridge oats each time.

Hmmm - bathwater oats in your smoothy - brings a whole new meaning to both recycling and money saving :silenced:

I think I overdid it this morning. I put half a mugfull of oats in the pan along with three times it's amount in liquid as last time it turned out too stodgy. Now I have a huge bowlful and I am never going to get through it all.

Any ideas for leftover cooked porridge anyone?

Porridge......... I HATE IT...........a remnant of being forced fed it as a child....ughhhhhhhh. My husband loves it, soaks it overnight in a little water then cooks it in the microwave for a couple of minutes on high, then adds a little cream and some salt............and eats the horrible stuff............

I would hate it also if it was made like this. Water errrr. I prefer milk & honey. Just right!!!!

Bought some organic rolled oats and found that they make a much less gloopy porridge - in fact when I went back to 'ordinary' oats I decided I preferred the organic ones! Typical - they are much more expensive, so that's one bit of money-saving up the creek!

when you say ordinary, do you mean those very processed supermarket type rolled oats? they all produce something akin to wallpaper paste (in my opinion)

if it's those you were using before, give the non organic jumbo oats a try, you'll get a good texture with a smaller price tag

or go the whole hog & try a some proper oatmeal, a half & half mix of medium & pinhead gives a great texture :)

SO glad this thread is still up and running!

I daren't try the organic stuff though because the cheap stuff is SO cheap and filling. And I like it. If I went back to the kind of stuff I had as a kid I might have to splash out on it every time. (A bit like being determined not to buy expensive wine just incase I develop a taste for it!)

Water. That's the only way to have it IMHO. The taste of hot milk is so EWWWW!
I have one or a mix of the following at the moment, honey, banana, dried fruit, linseeds. I have it 'bumpy' as 4 yr old ds describes it (stand-your-spoon-up-in-it thick) and he likes it the same. Other ds likes it 'slooby', that is loads of milk and not so much porridge. OH ( weirdo) adds sugar BEFORE cooking
