My sis used to like a swirl of single cream with hers, and a sprinkle of vanilla sugar!

Instead I had about 5 prunes and the juice from the tin - it was absolutely sublime! The nicest porridge I have had and I would heartily recommend trying it.0 -
After reading through this thread over the last few days, I thought I'd try it without milk today, just water. (Through no choice of my own - ran out of milk last night and the milkman is always late on a saturday.)
Well, I won't be trying that again. Its too like gruel for my tastes. I put some honey in, as I always do with the milky version, but to no avail. The bowlful is sat beside the computer getting cold.
so, for me, porridge has to be made with milk, pref whole but normally semi, and with a big dollop of honey in it.

I make it with just water - I add raisins and sometimes chopped dried apricots, and a splash of milk after I've put it in the bowl.
Nothing gruel-like about it!0 -
