Tough love is what we do here.
If somebody's bought the wrong house at the wrong price and their other half's left them with £1million mortgage debt while they're earning £10/year we don't say "awwww you're better off without him, go click something on quidco". We give practical advice "OMG, you're doomed, sell it quick! Get rid. Then chase his 4rse as he's half liable. Get a solicitor"
So we direct people to DFW for huggles because we're just rubbish at doing fluffy love.
The love here is more of an over-sized butt plug kind of love.

You seem to have taken a lot of this very personally, have you lost your pension?
Most people, I would hazard a guess, do intend to pay back what they borrowed. However circumstances change all the time, partnerships break up, people die, people get terminal illness, BTL landlords go bankrupt thus meaning the tenants have to find somewhere else to live, childcare needs paying, yada yada yada.........
Yes, but there is often a significant element of irresponsibility as well....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Ok I don't get it, what's the problem here, I have read many threads on here and there seems to be a minority who appear to have a real problem with the DFW board.
One comment was 'come here for advice, go to DFW for hugs', come on guys, get over yourselves.
Advice and support given on both boards is in the main, excellent, positive and relevent to posters circumstances.
We're all part of the MSE community, what's the problem?
Maybe one day life may take a direction you were'nt expecting and you may need to visit the DFW board and ask for support and advice, my guess is that you will be treated with courtesy not contempt. And so what if some people send hugs to others, at least someone bothers to reply to a thread with something positive.

Nope, I saw pensions were.... a huge pyramid scheme, and chose not to put money in knowing I would never see any of it again. Most people, I would hazard a guess, do intend to pay back what they borrowed. If you have £40,000 of unsecured debt, realistically, you have no way to pay it back and never had a real plan on how to pay it back. People plans relied on:- Get Lucky - Lottery, Inheritence, House Price inflation
- IVA/Go Bankrupt - Walk away from all/part of your debts.
Question: What happens when the government has removed the ability to go bankrupt. What happens if, instead of being able to walk away, people are actually forced to work to repay all their debts, plus interest...
Anyone seen those "debt management" programs on TV where the person has £25k in debts and the woman comes in and re-arranges their finances and shows them if they scrimp and save in 8 years they will have paid off their debt? Now imagine you have £50k in debts. Or £100k from negative equity after your house gets repossessed. Imagine you can't go bankrupt. Imagine working the rest of your life living in a work camp, making shoes or toys for the chinease, sleeping in bunks, hoping one day your monthly income will exceed your monthly interest and you'll be able to pay your debt off.
Now calm down, change your trousers, and imagine someone waved a magic wand and it was like 2003 again. There.... feel better?I think your frustration is misdirected SN, it's not the prole's you should target it's the Government and the big corporations, and you break the walls down from the inside not the outside!;)
No-one wanting to change the system will EVER be allowed far enough inside to do it. The money involved is too big. We will soon see one generation lined up directly against another. So, do you squat, have you or will you ever be a squatter, or do you just like the anarcho sound of it all?
I am not a squatter myself, I live above someones garage in a symbiotic rental relationship.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
""It's just stealing, plain and simple." says squatnow - yet in the last couple of days he has suggested that a tenant "invent" a rental agreement with £60pcm rent on it to get out of paying full rent
talk about double standards !!!!!!0 -

As more people use bankrupcy to get out of repaying their massive debts, the effects on the banks will become more pronounced, until the government has to oulaw bankrupcy to prevent all the banks going bust.

I don't know which part of the world you live in but it's clearly not the UK. The UK is too full of huggy's for this to EVER happen and the banks know this, hence why in response to you washing your hands of your £50k debts they're sticking several % on the lending rates and generally making it a lot harder for people to get any credit
Swings and roundabouts. For what it's worth I think banks deserve everything they get and if I could get away with it I'd rip off every single one of them for every penny I could get.

I only ever went once to the DFW board .... as I quickly run away after reading the board "rules" to not judge other people (fair enough) whereas when reading most of the stories all I felt like was to shout at them .... so as it's not very helpful I decided to go away
so well done to people there who are not like me :jAfter the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
Well to add my two penneth worth,... THIS IS THE INTERNET! Which means it's not real... those hugs on the DFW board aren't 'real', if someone trashes your post, its not 'real'. .. Those who gave you hugs or trashed you, have in the main forgotten all about you and your situation before the end of the day and are only reminded of it when they log back on and see your post has new answers.
The 'real' hugs come from friends and family around you are can help with more than just typed out words. Whether they're nice or nasty typed out words, they are no more than just that (and if you want them to be more than just that then you need a dating website probably).
(Off to the DFW board now for a laugh. Never been there before)0
