Well to add my two penneth worth,... THIS IS THE INTERNET! Which means it's not real... those hugs on the DFW board aren't 'real', if someone trashes your post, its not 'real'. .. Those who gave you hugs or trashed you, have in the main forgotten all about you and your situation before the end of the day and are only reminded of it when they log back on and see your post has new answers.

The 'real' hugs come from friends and family around you are can help with more than just typed out words. Whether they're nice or nasty typed out words, they are no more than just that (and if you want them to be more than just that then you need a dating website probably) ;) .

Exactly the point of my earlier post but apparently lost on the OP.

Ah now I think I understand, the DFW board isn't just about getting out of debt, it's also a counselling board.. whereby the reasons for getting into debt are all brought out and discussed (a bit like the TV programme where a psychologist analyses why people overspend and tackles that problem as well as the overspending). Seems to be a big link between psychological baggage and debt, so seems logical they should be tackled together.

Now not many folks here looking for advice on rents/house prices/mortgages/savings etc also need to discuss their inner motivations/background/upbringing.. and this is why there is no need for cyber hugs and love in these boards.. the ppl on the house price board are not psychologically vulnerable.

So the DFW site needs to be re-named to 'Counselling from Strangers' site.. then all will be solved. (IMO)

I don't know which part of the world you live in but it's clearly not the UK. The UK is too full of huggy's for this to EVER happen and the banks know this, hence why in response to you washing your hands of your £50k debts they're sticking several % on the lending rates and generally making it a lot harder for people to get any credit.

OK so what do you think WILL happen. Lets here your thought as to how the government can get out of it.

Lets clear things up for you - undenyable facts:
When masses of people start to go bankrupt, the banks get into trouble, and the entire economy comes to a halt. You go to the supermarket and your cards dont work. You fill up with petrol and your cards dont work. People find their overdrafts are withdrawn overnight. People with "cash" in bank account find they can't get it back.

How the F**k is the government going to solve it. Please tell us. Please. Please tell the government and the banks because they currently have NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL THEY CAN DO TO GET OUT OF IT.

There is no solution. You can't get out of it. You can't have large numbers of people borrowing money and not having to pay it back. It just wont work. A few people here and there can go bankrupt but if large number of people do it, you WILL bring down the ENTIRE banking system. If you government arranges some sort of debt forgiveness scheme then no-one has a reason to repay any debt, and money losses all value.

The only way to keep some semblance of society together is to make people do whatever they have to do to repay the debts.

Swings and roundabouts. For what it's worth I think banks deserve everything they get and if I could get away with it I'd rip off every single one of them for every penny I could get.

Um, you are aware that it's not the BANKS money. It's their CUSTOMERS money. It's their SAVERS money. It's peoples PENSIONS.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

It's not that people have a go here (well, somea minority do), but it's not a huggy board. We don't do group hugs to make each other feel better.

Tough love is what we do here.

If somebody's bought the wrong house at the wrong price and their other half's left them with £1million mortgage debt while they're earning £10/year we don't say "awwww you're better off without him, go click something on quidco". We give practical advice "OMG, you're doomed, sell it quick! Get rid. Then chase his 4rse as he's half liable. Get a solicitor"

So we direct people to DFW for huggles because we're just rubbish at doing fluffy love.

The love here is more of an over-sized butt plug kind of love.

    :)

Excellent stuff.....that last line certainly brought some rather rude thoughts to my mind!:rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

The government will only do whatever increases their chance of winning the next election.

So a lot of homeowners worried about property prices/ negative equity will mean the government will do whatever it can to stop house prices falling.

People worried about mortgage payments and the government keeps base rate low.

If you want to win this game you have to keep your eye on this.

I think alot of people are confusing 'fluffyness and hugs' with support and positivity.

We don't tell people everything is going to be alright when that's complete b0llocks. We congratulate them for facing up to things. If you put a positive spin on things it encourages people to carry on.

We tell people they need to do this themselves but we will be there to help and support them. It's all about encouragement and keeping morale up.

I don't expect people who have never been there to know what it's like. But at least have an open mind to things you absolutely have no understanding about.

Generally the people who come on there and give it all the 'tough love' talk, are normally the ones who were breast fed into their teens. :)

True. So what options do they have?

They did that in 2005. Ramped BTL, dropped interest rates. Made things worse. Now the "Crash" has become a "meltdown". The higher prices go, the bigger the crash, and the longer it takes to recover.

Catch 22: High interest rates, no-one can afford their mortgage. Low interest rates, enegry and food prices sore, no-one can afford their mortgage. Either way were f**ked.

This isn't a game, this is peoples lives. People are going to die. We could be looking at the end of britain as we know it. If were not careful we will end up like Zimbabwe. It happened to one of the south american countries... Brazil I IIRC.

The debt WILL NOT GO AWAY. One way or another, IT MUST BE PAID.

There is no magic wand Brown can wave, no get-out-of-jail-free card he can pull out of his sleeve. The HEAD OF THE BANK OF ENGLAND is constantly in the papers saying the standard of living in the UK is going to drop A LOT.

Saying "The Government wont let it happen" is complete bullsh!t.

You are just fantasising that everything will be ok. Click your heels together 3 times and say "there 's no time like 2003, there 's no Time like 2003". The concept that something bad could happen to you is something you cannot accept because on the news it's always been happening to someone else.

NEWSFLASH: It's happening to you. Wake up, plan ahead.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.
