Been a DFW for a while but starting to spend more time here in OS. Mr OneDay & I are working on simplifying our life for a move overseas to a less developed country where life is naturally more old style. Lots of great stuff going on here but this thread is the best.

Must be hard to find somewhere like that living in scotland... :p:p:p.. I have friend up there desperate to get back!! Seriously though.. where are you thinking of boogering off to??

Thanks for the apprentice reminder skintscotslass. A good way to get rid of fusty smells in an essential oil, like lemongrass, mandarin or orange, put on a damp cotton wool pad on the window ledge. Best to put it in a saucer incase the oil damages the woodwork. Keep adding a few more drops of oil and the house will soon smell lived in again. When do you move and have you found anyone to rent yet? xx

Ooooh, thanks for that Mudbath :T I have a nice mandarin oil and a wintery one as well.

I get the keys for the bungalow on Friday 29 August. I'm hoping to rent out my house w.e.f 1 August, at which point I'll move into my mum and dads. (They are in Australia with DD, so that wont be a problem) I've got a couple of people interested who are coming to see the house. So my plan is to re-carpet DD's room and decorate it over that weekend and move in gradually over the following week. The rest I can cope with, but I want her room to be nice, especially as her new room is much smaller. I dont know what I'll do with my new kitchen. I'm spoilt in my current one with all the room I have. I'm leaving my beautiful kitchen to one with 3 cupboards  and some lovely fetching 70s wallpaper. Cant wait to post some pics :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: On the plus side, I have a garage with power, so I can stick my spare fridge in there.

I have to tell you, I felt it necessary to vacuum the carpets after my family had visited. Its really weird to have carpets everyway, even the bathroom eeeeek  xx

    Hi everyone.

Not a lot of flying done today. As usual slept later than I wanted after my night shift. Then had to go down and give GS2 his birthday card and pressie for tomorrow. Hard to believe he is 17. I remember when he was born. I was working and felt really ill with pain. Didnt know DD was in hospital till she rang me after she had him.

I too use the thanks button as a bookmark.

    Hiya
I've posted this in a separate thread but wondered if anyone here knows what to do. We've been finding beetles on the half and i've just opened up the grate under the fire and there were a load of dead beetles there. It's a gas fire that looks like a real coal fire. Help! It's horrid! xx

On the half what?? :p ... oooh half moon cake.. not had one of those for forever!

They aren't living beetles!! so not all bad!!

Is the hearth or the surround wood?? June -August are flying times for woodworm beetles?? I've noticed a few buzzing about in here.. and obliterated them... black and about as big as a pin head.

Or carpet beetles.. they are usually not so tiny though.. and UUUUUGLY

Or mealbugs.. about as big as a penny.. black or red or brown and often stripey.. they are hideous but completely harmless.

What are they like?? Are they crunchy?? YUM!! Full of protein! Definitely better for you than dog biscuits!

Hehehe. I came up here 17 years ago and got stuck :) We are planning to go off to Costa Rica.... it's getting quite developed in the touristy areas now, but leave them and you're back to proper old style. Family & home *really* come first to the Ticos and it is a lifestyle that I am really attracted to. Just need to get the hang of keeping a tidy house and cooking from scratch and I'll be all set. I enjoy cooking but am quite rubbish at it and lacking imagination - so many great recipes to be found here :)

Right, off to remake the bed with the washed and dryed bedclothes.

Lol, ok, HEARTH! It's marble. The beetles are about 2 cm in length and the ones on the hearth are normally on their backs wriggling their little legs! I guess the ones that land right way up scurry away somewhere. I'm off to find a piccie. Luckily beetles don't totally freak me...unlike earwigs!!!
