Beware Ryanair

Dear All,

Just wanted to make you savvy people aware of a COMPLETE CON that Ryanair are running.

I have just booked flights for myself, fiance and future parents-in-law to Spain with Ryanair.

When going through the options to tell them how many bags I wanted to check in, I answered "0 bags and online check in" for all 4 of us (meaning that we wanted to travel hand luggage only)

This was followed by a question "Do you want to be one of the first people to get on the aircraft" to which I answered Yes, as I was keen for us all to be able to sit together, and having travelled on Ryanair before it is always a complete bun fight to get a seat.

So, off I continued and paid them for the flights PLUS £8 EACH for priority boarding. Only to discover (once they'd taken my money and charged me an outrageous credit card handling fee) that "Priority boarding is free for those choosing online check-in" (which I DID)

Why oh why then, did Ryanair bother to ask me if I wanted priority boarding and THEN let me pay for it?!

Something to be aware of as I'd not like others to be caught out by the same thing.

I shall be calling them first thing tomorrow, when they're actually open, to see what they've got to say about it and will get back to you when I've done so

(a very annoyed) Rita

actually, this isn't a complete con at all.. (as usual)

priority boarding is no longer free. The text that says that must be a slight error....

I'm still puzzled as to why people fly with [STRIKE]Scumair[/STRIKE] Ryanair. They very nearly killed us all on one flight I was on. We had a major electrical problem with the plane, and instead of going around, the pilot carried on with the smell of burning for the entire hour's flight. Never again will I fly with them, ever.

If that is the case, then Ryanair need to update their website

    Please see

    http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=chk&quest=benoc

    and

    http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=chk&quest=cost

It clearly states that it is free

Have you seen something in the news which says it is no longer free? If so, I'd be very interested

    Thanks

Sorry to hear about your experience. They've been fine up until now and I've flown with them many times. However, I'm very annoyed this time and, if they don't give me the money back, will NOT be flying with them again

Yes, thanks. It was the only time we've all, and I mean everyone, has been scared on a plane together. Even the gentleman next to me, a seasoned flyer, said he'd never been frightened of flying up to that point; and we've both been on some rough flights due to weather. It's also when I learnt that Ryanair's complaints policy is non existent.

There was no explanation from the pilot/stewardess, we just all set there in a suffocating burning rubber smell from the second we started rolling down the runway.

In fact the stewardesses all disappeared and didn't even serve drinks during the flight. There wasn't even an apology when we got off, the on board staff all just scarpered as soon as the door was open and left us to it.

    Never again.

It will be a happy day for me when Ryanair goes bust, taking Michael O'leary with it.

    Hello,

Yes, well, maybe you're right (i.e I shouldn't have booked with them in the first place) but that doesn't help my situation at the moment and I'm simply asking for clarification from the person who reckons it's not free because that's clearly NOT what Ryanair's own website says

Ryanair announced on the 19th of May that priority boarding would no longer be free for those who check-in online for bookings made from 03 June 2008.

You do need a bit of savvy to book with Ryanair. If you are not the brightest and have not got the savvy then avoid using them or find a friend who has a bit of savvy to help you through the booking process.

Ryanair Announces Changes to its Optional Priority Boarding Service

Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, today (19th May) announced changes to its optional priority boarding service which allows passengers to be first to board their flights. Airport check-in passengers currently pay £4/ €5 for this service, while web check-in passengers receive this service free of charge in order to promote online check-in.

From 3rd June, Ryanair’s new web check-in/ priority boarding policy will be as follows:

Ø Web check-in will continue to be free of charge.
Ø Web check-in passengers will no longer receive priority boarding free of charge.
Ø Web check-in passengers will pay the same £4/ €5 fee payable by airport check-in passengers for priority boarding.
Ø All passengers can pay for priority boarding either at the time of booking or at the airport.

From 3rd June, Ryanair will also introduce an online name change facility which will allow passengers to make name changes up to 24 hours before travel. This service was previously only available through the Ryanair call centre.

Speaking today, Ryanair’s Lorna Farren said:

“These new charges will make the sale of priority boarding fairer for all passengers. Because of the success of our web check-in facility (which allows passengers to avoid airport queues) many flights are now selling out all of our allocation of 80 (40%) of priority boarding seats. By charging the same fee for priority boarding for both web check-in and airport check-in passengers, we hope to ensure that priority boarding seats will always be available for sale at airports for family members and groups who wish to purchase it. These changes will become available for all bookings made on/ after 3rd June 2008.”

Can you tell me where you found this please?

Thanks - that's all I wanted. Not appreciating the insinuation that I am a little dim. We all have off days!

OMG here we go again, another ryanair put me down.
It will be a happy day for me when Ryanair goes bust, taking Michael O'leary with it

I have nothing but praise for ryanair, they have always been on time with there flights, there is plenty of leg room.
all the charges are there for you.
If you want it you pay for it.

I don't so i get cheap flights, i take a small case and it is never over weight.

As for the person, who flew with a smell of burning rubber.

Can i just say that 1 bad flight doesn' mean that they are all like that.

i could go into the atrocious flight i had with xl.com, but basically i can't be bothered, as for the bad flight that i was on, i'm sure that loads of people have had great flights with xl.com

So well done michale o leary, for making air flights, cheap enough for me to be able to visit family members abroad and in this country, for a fraction of the cost that richard branson would charge me for going on his train.
