 i wish every one would hurry up and increase their prices powergen just tried to increase my dd from £30 to £59.29 a month i don't b***** think so, i need to switch before they try and bankrupt me!!!
  • I had NPower knocking at the door twice last night (once at my house and once at My Mums). Unluckily for the sales girl at the door, she got me both times (she looked a bit confused). They are targeting people that have just had their letters saying their prices are going up.

I stood firm and will await Martin's go-ahead to check the comparison sites out.

Hope it all sorts itself out soon!!

If your direct debit hasn't been covering your usage though, you'll end up paying the extra sooner or later. Maybe better to pay it off at £29.29 a month rather than be hit for over £100 in one go when/if you switch to another company?

  • I'm with scottish power. My direct debit is £35 a month and is too high, but they wont lower it. So each year I ask for the amount I'm in credit as a cheque. last time it was almost £100, but they still wouldn't put the DD down. Now they've just sent me a letter saying as I'm not at least £100 in credit to cover my big winter bill, they've put it up to £39.50. I'm waiting for martins nod too, then hopefuly I'll find someone better as well.

That's not good. With Powergen you can change your direct debit amount online (although admittedly I've only ever tried to increase, not decrease, it).

Just cancel the direct debit and put the money in a savings account if they wont listen
  • I'm with Scottish Power and as far as I am aware I am on a capped rate. I say "as far as I am aware" because they have mucked up my online account on several occasions and caused me to lose the capped rate but put it back again.

Anyway back to the reason for my post, can they actually put up my rate if it is capped. I received a letter today telling me that the rate is to increase with immediate effect. On top of this the capped rate attracted a slightly higher charge per month, so they have charged to keep it capped but then backtracked on it.

I don't recall when the capped rate was due to end, but thought it was 2006.

    Any views?

Yesterday and today I have seen Npower stands in my area and they are trying to convert people. They say they are cheaper than my now supplier, Powergen, and on checking on their website today they are £145 cheaper than Powergen. I had an online quote a month or so ago which quoted the same price.

Does anyone know if they are due to increase their prices?

I have checked the UK Power saver link above, which says they last increased their prices in February 2005 and it says the site was last updated on 18 October.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks

They cannot increase your price until the capping period is up.Thats the whole idea of capping of it in the first place.Phone them up and complain.
