I've already got a couple of Barclaycards & am wondering whether to go for this offer. I'd be quite happy to transfer some of my existing credit limit to the new card.
Has any existing Barclaycard holder had any success with applying for this new card?0 -
Hi Martin, thought i would say what a great offer this is!.. I applied several weeks ago but got rejected !.. Duh .. cos i already got the platinum card .. LOL .. oh well u cant win em all :rotfl:0

I recently ditched my Barclaycard because it was surplus to requirements, and have just applied for this. I probably have to leave 6 months before re-applying, but I thought what the heck. They probably don't bother doing the credit check until they have exhausted other reasons for turning you down first.
I'll let you know how I get on.A penny saved is a penny gained0 -
Whoopeee - card came this morning, so have transferred £5K balance from Virgin - easy as pie, although they give you some hard sell on their additional 'card protection' options.
Thanks for the tip Martin!0 -
My girlfriend applied for this offer and was accepted. The card came and it says you have to ring up to activate it. Because there is no option on the online application to transfer a balance, I told her to do it then, and make sure she didnt pay any balance transfer fee.
When she rang up she was informed that she would have to pay 2%. I know we applied correctly, but she didnt have the terms and conditions to hand (and she is a complete walkover too) so she agreed to pay it.
I was none too happy about this, and told her to ring up customer services and basically tell them what to do. They said, after she had read the terms and conditions to her, that she would have to send a letter with the terms and conditions attached (I highlighted the bit that said "no handling fee" incase they "missed" it again).
I think this is just a blatant attempt to rip customers off to be honest. In the letter I happened to mention this website too, as a bit of extra firepower!
I'll let you know how we get on, but thought I would post this as a warning to others about their behaviour.

Thanks for this. I think everyone should make sure they have the relevant web page up on their computer before calling, so they can quote it if necessary. Make sure they know it is the Barclays-specific promotion, not the general Barclaycard one. If necessary ask to speak to someone who is more familiar with the T&Cs of the various offers. Or get them to call Barclays Bank themselves.
If you have to, keep phoning back until you get someone who does know.
I'm sure your partner shouldn't have to send a letter with attached terms and conditions. Whose terms and conditions are they? I can't believe they can't find them if they try. As you say, blatant rip off. Have you tried phoning their complaints department and getting them to sort it out for you? I'm sure it's not the responsibility of the customer to provide them with information they have already. It's outrageous!A penny saved is a penny gained0 -
To be honest, i completely agree, however, as my post states, the lil lady is a bit of a walkover! If it had been me I would have demanded to speak to somebody who knew what they were doing. I stated in my letter I shouldnt have to do this and they should be able to find their own terms and conditions, and that I expected some compensation as a result of their incompetance. I doubt I'll get it but thats a different matter. I think i'll drop the words "financial ombudsman" and "watchdog" in if it doesnt get resolved at the first attempt!0

At the very least it should have them hurrying to implement a quick bit of extra product training! LOL
Honestly, you'd think a company the size of Barclaycard could manage to train their staff properly, or at least teach them the phrase, 'let me consult my colleague' when they're not sure. Actually I think the trouble is, some people get a bit power-crazy when they spend all day making decisions on other people's finances, and start thinking they can make up their own rules. There'll always be some in every organisation. :rolleyes:A penny saved is a penny gained0 -
Hi, I took your advice and applied for a Barclaycard. Having received it and activating it, I called them to transfer a balance. Lo and behold, they have lots of conditions about how much you can transfer interest free, everything over that amount is then charged at 6.9% until it is paid off in full. I have told them to cancel my card and to have a Customer Service Manager call me to make a complaint to them. Can you find any real 0% offers without sneaky terms and conditions? :mad:0

It's usually a good idea to read the T & C's http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/Products/Apply/balance_transfer_tandc/barclays_platinum.html before applying. Paragraph 1. is clear enough.0
