Q1. If for example my visa card is £2000 overdrawn can I do BT from my new 0%Barclaycard for £2500 and therefore have £500 extra on my visa card.

Q2. If for example my egg card has a zero balance can I still BT funds from my new 0% Barclaycard to my egg card and then transfer money from my egg card to my ISA?

Depends on how your Visa card provider views positive balances. Some lenders return the value of any positive balance back to the card sending it. Check your own T&C's to see if your lender does this.

    If it's a post-May 1st 2005 Egg card, then you'll incur a 2% (S)BT fee for this - unless you ring them and ask for a BACS transfer. If it's pre-May 1st 2005 Egg card, then there won't be a problem.

Just had a call from one of their call centres asking a few security questions.

Does anyone know if this is positive or can they still refuse to give me a card?

Have to wait 3 months for a credit limit increase - ah well, was worth a try and I've shuffled some of my other credit cards, so no harm done :D

Have to say, the Barclaycard c/s bloke was rather lovely. Very cheerful, nicest c/s I've spoken to in ages! 5 minutes later, called M&S c/s, they didnt have a clue, kept me on hold for almost 7 minutes as their system had crashed  very bad line, had to keep repeating myself  won't be doing that again any time soon....

    Hi everyone,
You may remember last week or so i put a post on here about Barclaycard charging my partner 2% for a balance transfer even though I know we applied correctly for the 10 months 0% with no b/t charge. I wrote a letter of complaint and got a reply this morning stating that the charges were correct and would not be refunded.

I know for a fact that they are not, I printed off the T&C which clearly state that there is "No handling fee" for B/T. She hasnt gone over the credit limit or anything like that, so I dont know what they are playing at.

I have written another letter pointing this out and attaching said T&C's with the relevant information highlighted.

What do I do next? To be honest, I cant see them moving on it. Its only £17 but its the principle of the matter now. grrrrrrr. Wont be using them again thats for sure.

Put a complaint in to the FSA?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers
    Cian
  • If your BT was up to £5000 then there should be no "handling charge" if over that sum then there is a 2% fee, the T & C' s clearly state this. The one's I've seen and received from them with the card do anyway.

Not according to the "balance transfer terms and conditions" on the website, which clearly state there is no fee for BT's over the £5K/90% threshold...

"1. We reserve the right to refuse a balance transfer or to limit the amount that can be transferred, in any case the minimum is £250 and the maximum will be £5,000 or 90% of your credit limit, whichever is lower, subject to the available credit limit on your account. Should we honour amounts in excess of your balance transfer limit they will be debited to your account and charged at 6.9% interest p.a., until paid in full, with no handling fee."

Reading the above, as far as I see it, because she transferred just under a grand, and the limit is £3k, she should not have been charged a fee!

I've read the T&C's so many times I could almost recite them!

One thing is for sure, I wont let it drop!
    Thanks for the help

Got my card through this morning, but they are not over generous with their credit limits - mine was just over £2k. There is also no possiblility of increasing this until the account has been run for some months (at least this is according to the person I spoke to).

Still £2k for 10 months at 0% is still not to be sniffed at.

Also, the T&C I received with the card clearly state that there is no handling fee.

    Cian,

    Check the summary box again.

If you applied for the 10 month card it clearly states there is no handling charge for transfers in the first 60 days.

If you make a transfer outside this window then the fee does apply.

Try calling again and ask to make a formal complaint. You may get through to someone who can help them.

Going to the FSA at this stage is probably a bit premature.

With this offer you have to make sure you apply using the right form or the right bit of the website. There is a similar offer running with the BT fee and Terms and Conditions are different for each offer.

Do you have the T&C for the card your partner actually applied for, or are you just looking at the ones on the website?

I suggest you get her to call and get a copy of her terms and conditions first if she doesn't have the originals.

    R.
Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
