Sandals Discount SCAM!

  • Hi

I too booked on line on Monday after calling Sandals on the number on the sandals website, I booked 2 weeks Antigua for Sept on Monday 2nd cost £2777.00

Telephone call from Claire at funway Travel on Wed saying the cost is £4400.00 what would I like to do cancell or pay
Told her I would need to talk to My husband, My husband called them and was told term and conditions etc etc you tick a box on the sandals website in the final booking stages. Called ATOL ABTA TRADING STANDARDS all gave conflicting advice, it was mentioned to use the credit card company as deposit was taken on virgin credit card.

My husband and I went there last year same date premuim ecomony and deluxe room and paid £4600.00, so I thought that price was about right for a higher grade room on 2 for 1 with normal flight.

There is power in numbers I was told on Wednesday morning that this afffected 130 couples so far. I have emailed watchdog had no response so maybe power of peoplel might work if we all email them and keep bombarding them with emails,

I still have my booking open with them and I have my seat numbers from virgin.

I shall keep you informed if i get anything back, I will check if i have a copy of the paper and if so i will scan at work tommorow.

Remember those that booked on line clicked the sandals t & C not funway or markstravel I have asked them to clarify who is resposible as I plan to take them to the small claims court.

come on Martin name and shame them on your friday slot

I must have missed something - how is this a SCAM?

Am I going to have to add "scam" to "rip-off" in my theory about posting titles?
Think you're wrong there mate, this is both a scam and a rip off, so there goes your little theory down the shoot:rolleyes:
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • I have found the said mail on sunday advert
terms and conditions are as follows on the advert
prices are per person based on 2 adults sharing a room 7 include accomodation as stated. return schedule flights with BA or VIRGIN,all taxes and in resort transfers. You must book by Friday 6 th June 2008. new bookings only.avlibilty is limited and on a first come basis.flights are economy class. I shall Scan the paper tommorow and post on here if im able

there is no mention at all of them being able to raise the price even though they think that they can do this right up to the evening before you travel so funway quoted. I see 1400 views on this thread only 5 or 6 posting ?

do you think we stand a chance ?

Scam - 1.a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, esp. for making a quick profit; swindle. 2.to cheat or defraud with a scam.
To be fair this looks more like a !!!!-up on a massive scale, a scam is perhaps the wrong word unless someone can show that Sandals has deliberately deceived you in order to make money out of you. I've a feeling they will get nothing but bad press and lose lots of money from this.

I agree its not really a scam its just a ridiculous c*&k up as you say - but i didn't start the first post. I'm quietly confident after speaking to the solicitor and Sandals still havent called me back about it! Whatever it was its not the customers fault!
I think we should definitely stick together, i think we have the below names so far -
    Nortoang
    Bgmartinsbridge
    TrevorW
    loushaddick
Possibly corrsy(hopefully you dont get a call

How can we get this issue escalated to Martin?

I've just spoken to a manager from Sandals and have told her all details above and that i know 4 other people in the same situation who are also prepared to fight. she said that she was told from their legal dept that it was not legally binding until an invoice had been sent out, i told here we all had been told different especially as the deposit had been taken from most of our accounts(she was a bit surprised at that and i think that probably makes a difference). I told that we were all escalating to martin lewis, watchdog and credit card companies as well as 2 solicitors currently. apparently they found the system issue sometime tuesday but of course had taken a great deal of booking sunday and monday so have been gradually contacting people.
i said they should seek compensation from funways as they messed the booking system up and no other company would go back to the customer for compensation - reputationally this could be really bad for them!this will be my 3rd sandals trip and i'm thinking of possibly getting married there as well - told her that too - but i wont be if i get mucked around any further.
incidently i was telling someone about this and their dads friend booked a flight on BA website that worked out cheaper in business class than economy, (another system error!) BA phoned him up but ended up wearing the cost!
she is going to take back all my feedback and will come back to me and let me know what is decided, booking still currently stands - i checked on the sandals website today by checking in online too.
    everyone should hear something soon

nope.. it is not a scam or a rip-off it is an error..
obviously, it is human error, whoever set up the system to apply 2 discounts when only one should be allowed.

    nortoang,

Please remove the name and contact number of the Sandals manager. It is unfair on her, and is not allowed under MSE rules.

I've just spoken to Pam Ros's secretary and she said that as i have an email confirmation with all the holiday details and price that is a contract and legally they have to supply the holiday at that price, I have to tell them i'll take this to a 3rd party of they do not. I can go back to Pam and Ros if that becomes an issue.

Sorry, but this is bad advice. Any contract solicitor would not give such a definitive response without actually seeing all the documents involved.

I would wait until you have spoken to Ros, and not some secretary, before making such a sweeping statement. If Ros is also willing to make such a statement with only some vague details being given over the phone (and I would hope that she will not), then she shouldn't be doing her job!

I hope you hear something back soon from her Nortoang!

I still haven't received THE Call (yet).

I did the online check-in yesterday as I said and received this email today:
Online Check-in Confirmation Email Your online check-in is now complete. All you will have to do when you arrive is verify your information, sign the form and present your credit card to the front desk. We look forward to welcoming you personally to Sandals Grande Antigua on Sep 21,2008. Have a wonderful vacation!
However, I know it doesn't mean a thing with regards to them being able to up-the-price.

Has anyone else got an update yet on their situation?
