I notice there's also a load of "sticky willie" in the background, I hate that stuff!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

they maybe aren't hatching out of the lump bit, but maybe just gathering there ready for a feast! and it would make sense as this bit gets up to 40 degrees and they seem to be a common glasshouse problem? anyway i hope they're gone, if you can tell me what else it is i'd be happy to know.totally a tog!:D0 -

Wow! I blew that up and it did look like yours. I've never seen mites make much of a web, but then any mite that dares to come in my glasshouse gets 'the treatment,' which is a commercial chemical used by strawberry growers. As they don't jump or fly, I usually find it pretty easy to get the upper hand, till they break out in the garden late summer anyway.
RSM aren't that much of an issue in the garden, unless. like me, you sell plants. They all get packed together in the Transitand it is easy for them to 'get about' in there!0 -
Oh, the joys of an inherited garden. I've little idea what anything is in my garden, or even whether or not things are weeds. I was pretty sure this fella was a weed until I went to Ryton Gardens, where they have loads of it, too. Even if it is a weed, it is handy because it smothers other weeds when it gets going, but it would be nice to know what it is and whether it's supposed to be there

Also, this one is I'm 99% sure a weed, but we let it carry on because the bees seemed to like it. But I think it needs digging up before it smothers the grassy reedy thing. Any comments on what the grassy reedy thing is would be gratefully received as well!

Please ignore the grass/moss etc. I am getting it cleared up... slowly but surely...0 -
Hello,
The first one is ladies mantle- Alcchemilla
The second pic has Columbine or Aquilegia, its not really a weed, its not the grass one, the one with the purple flower, i really like these. Not sure on the type of grass

I get Alchemilla in my garden as a weed, its slightly different from the cultivated variety, but I'm happy to have it as long as it doesnt take over.
The aquilegia will self seed all over your garden eventually, if you get too much pull it out before the flowers fall so that the seeds dont spread. It might flower in other colours, ie pink flowers and white flowers, if you find one you like, keep the seeds of that plant to sow the following year.
These kind of "free" plants are always welcome in my garden, and you dont feel guilty about pulling them up if they are in the wrong place or get too big.
Happy gardening, elmer x0 -
Can anyone identify these for me please?

Also, there's an area about 20' x 10' at the bottom of our garden which i'm thinking of clearing, laying down weed barrier, and turfing.
The turf works out about £110, but everywhere seems to recommend 15cm of topsoil - according to a topsoil calculator, i'd need about 8 tonnes - which works out more than the turf! A lot more!!
Last summer i did another area using grass seed and about 3cm of topsoil and it's looking fine now.
Do i really need 15cm of topsoil under new turf?? I presume i couldn't lay turf straight onto weed barrier though...0
