And just a quickie....
Can I split this now? Or will it harm it if I do?

Is it also possible to train something like this to spread in a certain direction?
Think this is osteospermum, not sure about when best to split, probably not best to do it now. No idea about the other plants.Just A Grumpy old Jedi0 -
No that would be one hell of a red spider mite infestation, it is one of the many caterpillars as such you will need to spray with a suitable pesticide, there are very few organic ways of dealing with these. You can try soapy water and cigarette butts soaked in warm water, but a quick squirt of a pemritihin based pesticide will be best.My Mind wanders, if found please return.0

Hi
I wouldn't split any plant whilst they are in full flower; it usually best to do so when they are dormant, so autumn time.
But, Osteospermum are half hardy, so they will probably die out unless you overwinter them somewhere that frost won't get to them. Probably best to take cuttings as they won't grow from seed.
try osteospermum.com for more hint and tips.0 -
OK thanks for the tips.
I have another one here though growing up the side of the house.

These wouldn't be potato's by any chance???To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
Definitely not potatoes - they have the same sort of leaves as tomato plants.
I thiink it may be ground elder, but I'm not absolutely certain.
As for the osteospermum, try looking at the stems that are nearest the ground. They often start to root by themselves, and if there are not long roots, there may be little nobbly bumps that are going to grow into roots. You can either take off a stem, and pop it into a pot with a compost/sand mix, or maybe pin it into the ground with a piece of bent wire, and let it root there than move it later. It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0 -
The 'shall I split it plant' is an osteospermum, no don't split it. They are tender perennials, if you live in a mild area they may survive the winter, so you could spilt them in the autumn if you want to risk it.0

Ground elder is bad isn't it??
Its only growing at the side of the house and the pond at the moment, how should I effectively treat it to get rid of it, I dont realy want it spreading to the rest of the garden...To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
The leaves look like ground elder to me, but they look like they have separate leaves from the photos, and ground elder has leaves running from a central stem... I'm not explaining that very well am I
.
If it is ground elder, it is invasive and can spread quickly. But we just pulled ours out a year or so ago and it never came back, even though we got told we would have to use chemicals. You have to get all of the roots out.0
