So its not ground elder then? I'm confused now:rolleyes:
I think this might be ground elder actually, big white flowers that pop when you squeeze them?

The stuff is everywhere and every time I dig it up it comes back. Thankfully with all the hard work I put in on my borders its down to the odd shoot from time to time.
But definately different from the stuff growing down the side of the house.
I will post it here again so its easier to compare.

I read the posts before I looked at the pics and I was imagining the brown lump being the size of a mole-hill

Lol, thats hedge bindweed. The stuff is everywhere and every time I dig it up it comes back. Thankfully with all the hard work I put in on my borders its down to the odd shoot from time to time.

Thats definately ground elder. Both are pernicious weeds. Snap off the bindweed at the base and/or dig as much as you can. Fork out the ground elder, you will need to repeat this several times but it is possible to remove it permanently.
If you don't fancy the hard work then treat with a glyphosate weedkiller. It will effectively deal with both. If the bindweed is growing up through other plants then mix up some weedkiller and paint the leaves with a small brush. It won't harm anything it doesn't actually touch.

It's hedge woundwort, so called because it was once used to treat injuries:

Red deadnettle, though related, is rather different:

Your camera isn't showing me enough, but I don't reckon it's red spider mite. Mites dont hatch out of brown lumps, they come from single transparent eggs which you can see with a X10 magnifier. Spiders hatch out of 'nests,' but I can't tell what these are! As Jnelhams said though, it would be a hell of a red spider infestation to give you that amount of web.
Anyway, if your indoor garden is humid that will help to put off mites. They like hot and dry best.0 -

Ah well looks like I'm gonna have to plant some potato's after all......:D
I've managed to keep my borders in order with just the aid of a hoe, no weed killer or mulch, at first it was twice a week but I'm down to once a week or fortnight now. :TTo travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0
